The Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking Mechanical Engineers. If you want to be part of enabling nuclear energy research and development, including deployment of next generation nuclear reactors then this position is for you.
The Nuclear Research Facility Engineer applies engineering knowledge, practice, and techniques to solve applied and operational problems in the areas of R&D for Nuclear Programs, National and Homeland Security, Energy, and Environment.
The entry level Nuclear Research Engineer works under general supervision on routine work. Assignments are moderate in scope and complexity.
Functions
- Responsible to define requirements and develop design concepts by communicating with the customer to understand customer requirements and identify design goals
- Develops engineering change work packages to include negotiating design schedule with customers, cost estimates, and request resources to support work
- Creates engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and implementation documents to meet customer's design inputs
- Complete and document detailed design to include performing calculations, conformation of code compliance, issuing design documents, developing materials and parts lists, inspection plans, etc.
- Verify design and implementation by presenting and/or participating in design review including qualification testing on prototypes, and developing and executing test procedures on assigned systems
- Implement designs by supporting procurement of materials, equipment, services, and following construction activities
- Follow assigned system through equipment life. Implement appropriate maintenance and modification to ensure system operational readiness
- Verify and maintain the technical content of System Configuration information to be accurate and adequate. This includes verifying consistency between the design requirements, physical configuration, and the System Configuration information documentation
Minimum Requirements:
- PR0100 – Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering related field with 0-2+ years of experience or a Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering degree and 0-1+ years of experience
- PR0200 – Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering related field with 2-5+ years of experience or a Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering degree and 1-3 years of experience
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience with AutoCAD and CREO is desirable

- Salary Grade PR0100 - 200 ($81,288 - $134,100)/ PR0200 - 210 ($93,492 - $154,212)
