Machine Design Engineer:

Essential Functions:
The Machine Design Engineer uses technical expertise, creativity, and innovation to design and develop new equipment from the conceptual design stage through to production in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined team setting while meeting quality, performance, cost, and schedule goals.
  • Analyzes product or equipment specification and performance requirements to create designs for in-house manufacturing equipment.
  • Determines feasibility of designing new equipment or modification of existing equipment considering costs, available space, time limitations, company planning, and other technical factors.
  • Build and test prototype equipment.
  • Assist in writing of equipment documentation.
  • Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously and effectively influence, negotiate, and communicate with internal and external business partners, contractors, and vendors.
  • Designs fixtures, tooling, and machinery using 3D CAD (solid works preferred) including both parts and assemblies.
  • Creates 2D shop drawings based on 3D models.
  • Prepares Bill of Materials, specify, and source machine components.
  • Write and/or update PLC and industrial robot programs.
  • Support production with implementation and use of new machinery.
  • Actively listen, probe and identify concerns. Understand the business & customers’ needs.
  • Solicit support from and communicate effectively with internal staff to ensure customer satisfaction. Develop relationships with all to deliver quality results.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, technicians, and production staff on individual projects based on product/process knowledge.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Bachelor degree or higher in mechanical engineering, or related area.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a Machine Design Engineering role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows 10 and Microsoft Office.
  • Must have experience with 3D CAD software (Solidworks preferred).
  • Familiarity with CAM software preferred.
  • Knowledge of control systems, machine logic, and machine programming.
  • Knowledge of machine shop processes.
  • Ability to work hands on with industrial equipment.
  • Excellent customer service, written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Experience presenting complex technical topics to both technical and business audiences.
  • Continuous Improvement/Problem Solving skills.
  • Committed to integrity in business.
  • Experience with medical devices or in a regulated industry preferred.
