Job description
Big Ass Fans is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support new product development and designs. We are seeking an experienced engineer who can hit the ground running, a critical thinker with an ability to innovate out-of-the-box solutions, and someone who can analyze and test designs. Our product portfolios are continually growing and range from small to Big Ass Fans, and from directional fans to evaporative coolers.
Responsibilities
- Design and evaluate new fans and related products.
- Assist in the development of new product designs by reviewing sketches, descriptions, specifications, and supporting documents while working with other engineers and product designers.
- Develop test procedures for new technology evaluation.
- Provide technical options with cost analysis for evaluation with product managers.
- Prepare detailed 3D models using SolidWorks.
- Direct the generation of 2D engineering drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerances.
- Define and document product specifications and requirements.
- Analyze product designs using Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis techniques.
- Construct and evaluate prototypes.
- Conduct preliminary physical tests to develop design, concepts and prototypes.
- Prepare test plans for physical testing and confirm/validate designs.
- Confirm designs are in compliance with relevant codes and standards; work with compliance engineers.
- Research and stay up-to-date with industry trends and competitive products and incorporate improvements into your work
- Interface with Program Managers, Quality, and Manufacturing personnel as required bringing new products from concept to production.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians.
- Interface with vendors and suppliers on the design of purchased components.
- Work with minimal supervision on multiple projects, in a consensus-based team environment.
- Collaborate with colleagues, customers, and business partners at all levels with a “roll up the sleeves” approach, strong work ethic and integrity, and clear ownership stake in company and customer success.
Requirements
- BS in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in product design and development
- Experience using Solidworks is a plus
- Ability to communicate effectively, and prepare technical documents and reports
- Out of the box, creative thinker with product design and development, material, hands-on, and continuous improvement experience
