Risktec is seeking an experienced metallurgist / materials scientist (permanent or associate role) to join our expanding Asset Integrity Management team based in Derby, UK. Successful candidates will be working as part of an energetic team of recognised industry experts, delivering valued solutions for our clients. The majority of the team’s activities are focussed on the Conventional Power and Clean Energy sectors (primarily CCGT, Biomass and Energy from Waste plants). In addition, we deliver our consultancy and inspection services to wind farms, nuclear power stations and clients in the defence, oil, gas and chemical industries. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience of some or all of the following:
- Ferrous metallurgy, failure analysis and root cause investigation – experience in high temperature degradation mechanisms, including creep, and corrosion in biomass / energy from waste boilers would be a particular advantage
- Power plant inspection (e.g. steam and water pressure parts), with an understanding of materials selection, damage / degradation mechanisms and life assessment
In addition, you will have excellent organisational, problem solving, communication and report writing skills.
Duties and responsibilities will include:
- A combination of laboratory work to support metallurgical failure examinations, desktop work and site visits to carry out investigations and inspections
- Providing technical support and advice to clients
- Producing formal technical reports and other project deliverables on time and to budget
- Creating proposals and tender return documents and developing new business
- Developing relationships with clients
- Managing projects
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of standards, legislation and good practice
The role will periodically involve short periods of travel, both within the UK and abroad, to meet project requirements.
Required qualifications:
- Minimum of a degree in science, engineering or related discipline
- Minimum of 3 years’ industry experience
