Our Materials Engineering Product Design team is dedicated to creating and optimizing these materials. We influence and enable innovative enclosure designs across all Apple product lines year after year. Sitting within Materials PD, our Alloy Engineering team devises novel approaches to integrating advanced metals into our products. We are looking for a Materials Engineer with a stellar background in alloys/metals to help take our future products to the next level. Could this be you?
Key Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years work experience in a materials or product design environment
- Experience leading large alloy development and processing-related projects
- Experience with material selection and qualification for product design
- Experience employing computational materials engineering for alloy design and process optimization is highly desirable
- Experience in the physical metallurgy and processing of aluminum, stainless steel, or titanium alloys
- Experience with additive manufacturing, metal casting, or net shape powder metallurgy processing is also desirable
- Flexibility and comfort working in a fast-paced environment
Description
As a member of the Alloy Engineering team at Apple, you will help create the next generation of the world's finest consumer electronic devices. You will drive the rapid advancement of alloys, coatings, and processes that are the building blocks of our products. This position will interface within Alloy Engineering and directly with other Product Design, Operations, and Industrial Design teams to advance and shape Apple’s advanced materials. Responsibilities will include identifying, developing, and applying new alloy and processing solutions for Apple products. The ideal candidate will have experience in applying physical metallurgy principles to materials development, preferably applying integrated computational materials engineering and system engineering approaches. An understanding of materials processing and manufacturing is also important for this position. Another critical component with will be experience alloys such as aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, as well as net shape processes. These include additive manufacturing, powder metallurgy processing, and metal casting to assist designers in materials selection and architecture for cosmetic, mechanical, and other performance metrics. The successful candidate must possess the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously with competing priorities.
Education & Experience
A minimum of B.S. in Materials Science, Metallurgy or a related field is required. M.S. or Ph.D. is preferred.
