About Omnibus Theatre
Omnibus Theatre is a multi-award-winning independent theatre in Clapham, South London. Finalist in the Fringe Theatre of the Year 2020 & 2023 The Stage Awards, Off-West End Award winner 2018 and 2020, and recipient of the Peter Brook/Royal Court Theatre Support Award in 2016. The heart of the organisation’s ambitious programme lies in classics re-imagined, modern revivals and new writing. Omnibus Theatre also provides a platform for LGBTQIA+ work and aims to give voice to the underrepresented and challenge perceptions. Since opening in 2013 notable in-house productions include Woyzeck (2013), Macbeth (2014), Colour (2015), Mule (2016), Spring Offensive (2017), Zeraffa Giraffa (2017), Queens of Sheba (2019), The Little Prince (2019), RICE! (2021), The Human Connection (2021), The Girl Who Was Very Good at Lying (2021), FIJI (2022), SAD (2022) and DRUM (2022).
Omnibus Theatre is led by Artistic Director Marie McCarthy and Executive Director, Bridget Kalloushi. Patrons include Dame Judi Dench, Sir Lord Michael Cashman, and Maggi Hambling.
The Building
Our spaces consist of:
- Theatre - a flexible space with the ability to be adapted into a variety of flexible configurations (capacity 90-110)
- Common Room - a medium sized ground floor room which can be used for meetings, rehearsals, seminars and as an informal performance area (capacity 70)
- Studio Upstairs– a flexible space with the ability to be adapted into a variety of flexible configurations, rehearsals, concerts and performances. (Capacity 80)
Our spaces cater to a variety of companies ranging from theatre, production companies, local organisations and businesses, residents and families wanting a one-off event or regular/return hires. The Café Bar are open to the public from Fridays – Sundays during the day and evenings to support all programmed events within the building.
General
This job description is a guide to the nature of the work required of the Marketing Assistant and does not form part of the contract of employment. It is neither wholly comprehensive nor restrictive and therefore does not preclude change or development that will inevitably be required in the future.
MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Marketing Manager is a key member of our team and will be responsible for leading on all marketing activity for Omnibus Theatre including our artistic programme and our commercial opportunities, generating effective and creative marketing strategies across online media, print and broadcast. The Marketing Manager will work closely with all departments to engage new audiences in all aspects of our work and grow income across the board, taking the lead on ensuring that Omnibus Theatre’s outward-facing message is strong and clear and that the brand is understood and consistent.
We are looking for someone with a proven track-record of marketing and sales management with a passion for the performing arts and a natural creative flair with a minimum of two years’ experience in arts, ideally Theatre.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy and Planning
- Manage a fully integrated marketing strategy, covering digital, print, broadcast and new media.
- Regularly undertake benchmarking and evaluation of marketing and communications strategy to ensure that Omnibus Theatre continues to be innovative and original and take this young and exciting organisation to the next stage of development.
- Clearly communicate the marketing and communications strategy to visiting artists and companies.
- Track internal marketing budget, pinpointing activity to maximise potential for the venue.
Artistic Programme
- Oversee the design of all marketing material for Omnibus Theatre
- Work with all the incoming visiting companies and producers to collect and collate all marketing information for Omnibus Theatre’s artistic programme. This includes proofing copy and reworking it into house style for Omnibus Theatre’s website, brochure and individual flyers; resizing and editing images for website and email campaigns using Adobe Creative Cloud programmes.
- Overseeing all FOH displays, ensuring that print is up-to-date, and that current and future visiting company information is displayed.
- Negotiate marketing contras where appropriate and maximise opportunities for partnerships, working to achieve cost effective and creative marketing campaigns.
- Work with a wide range of organisations locally, nationally, and internationally to exchange marketing information and cross-promote events.
- Work with the Artistic Director on the marketing campaign of all in-house productions, producing a wide range of digital marketing materials including display advertising, email marketing campaigns and social media content, as well as overseeing the production of print marketing materials, including flyers and posters.
Digital, Communications and Messaging
- Oversee the development and maintenance of Omnibus Theatre’s website
- Oversee all social media platforms, digital content, and e-newsletters.
- Design and source regular content and ensure it is distributed across all digital channels to grow audiences.
- Maximise key channels of digital communication and test new technologies to widen appeal and strengthen voice.
- Monitor, evaluate and report on the effectiveness of digital campaigns.
- Liaise with the Artistic Director to ensure a consistent message across all media.
- Develop an effective internal delivery strategy to provide clear communication and briefing sessions to core front-line staff.
- Ensure a consistent design style for the brand, which always meets brand guidelines as agreed with the Artistic Director
- Ensure all staff members, visiting companies and partners use consistent font and branding on all documents, including emails, both internal and external.
- Work with the Front of House Team to ensure all shows and events are effectively communicated to staff, companies, and audiences.
Promotion of Commercial and Charitable Activities
- Promote bar, food and hire opportunities at Omnibus Theatre in consultation with the Café Bar Manager and Artistic Director
- Work with the Artistic Director and Executive Director to create communications for our current and prospective supporters and ensure that information on our registered charity status is prominent across all channels.
Data and Evaluation
- Use our ticket, and marketing software to help track sales and target progression.
- Create, compile, distribute and analyse sales trackers and targets and maintain all related reporting.
- With the Artistic Director regularly review and improve data collections across the organisation, implementing evaluation methods to inform business and programming decisions.
- Carry out audience analysis on a regular basis to inform programming and marketing decisions.
PR and Media Relations
- Share press coverage across all communication channels in a timely manner, ensuring maximum engagement.
- Compose and distribute press releases for new season announcements and key organisational news
- Work with external PR agencies to support their campaigns
General
- To champion the vision of Omnibus Theatre
- To attend performances at Omnibus Theatre as required.
- To act as a spokesperson for Omnibus Theatre as appropriate.
- To undertake any other duty as might reasonably be required by the Artistic Director
Essential
- At least 2 years' experience a marketing and/or communications role within an arts setting
- Experience devising, implementing, and evaluating marketing and communications campaigns
- Ability to develop and edit creative content for use across multiple platforms
- Managing social channels and adapting activity to maximise engagement
- Working with PR, marketing agencies, journalists, web, and graphic designers
- Understanding of audience analysis tools
- Confidence with website content management systems (e.g. Wordpress) and email marketing programmes (e.g. Mailchimp)
- Excellent copywriting skills
- Confident communicator with excellent verbal and written communication skills
- High level of organisational skills and ability to manage and prioritise a variety of projects and campaigns concurrently to meet deadlines
- Confidence engaging with external partners and negotiating on behalf of the company
- Highly motivated with the ability to work well independently and within a small team
- A desire and readiness to learn new skills to support the delivery of our work
- Highly computer literate
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Proactive approach and ability to take initiative
- Passionate about the arts
Desirable
- Knowledge of Omnibus Theatre’s work
- Knowledge of data sharing agreements
- Experience of budget management
