Job purpose
To provide specialist expertise and guidance to contribute towards and support the delivery of a new initiative as part of the Scottish Funding Council working closely with cross-sectoral and cross-discipline researchers to address Scottish Government priorities. You will be responsible for creating, leading, successfully implementing and evaluating the marketing and communications strategy.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To provide specialist expertise on marketing and communications platforms as well as offering strategic and tactical advice to Alliance teams concerning all matters of marketing and communication.
2. To create and lead on the development of a media relations plan, optimising academic media presence and external stakeholder access to the Alliances work and activities.
3. Work closely with the College of MVLS marketing and communications team to help develop the Alliances’ strategic approach to engagement. To proactively build and enhance working relationships with wider teams in University of Glasgow External Relations and other Colleges within the University, as well as other Universities (i.e., University of St. Andrews) as appropriate.
4. To lead on creating, developing, and maintaining the website for each of the three Alliances’.
5. To produce regular reports on the Alliances’ websites and social media accounts, using relevant analytics and online resources. To interpret, analyse and evaluate activities to inform suggested opportunities and /or recommendations for future planning.
6. To fully understand customer journey mapping, employ user-testing and statistical analysis in the ongoing development of new content.
7. Source, create, coordinate, and implement engaging content that targets and responds to our key internal and external audiences. Including, preparing briefs for design, photography, and video, develop storyboards and deliver compelling copywriting, within the brand guidelines so that content can be re-purposed across multiple channels.
8. Support and carry out digital advertising activity through different channels creating exciting and compelling content to promote the Alliances; along with monitoring and optimising activities as campaigns progress.
9. Develop and enhance collaborative working relationships with academic and professional support staff to maintain and develop high-quality content for all channels.
10. Responsible for planning and organising marketing activities to meet key strategic priorities and appropriate deadlines.
11. Collaborate with colleagues and participate in meetings, sharing information across the college and wider university teams, as appropriate.
12. Develop and manage the brand identity for the Alliances, ensuring guidelines are adhered to by all staff/stakeholders/partners.
13. To Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by Alliance management.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential
A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework 8 (Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4, Higher National Diploma) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.
A2 Detailed practical knowledge and understanding of producing engaging digital content, writing for the web and copywriting
A3 Knowledge and understanding of web design and web information architecture
Desirable
B1 Knowledge of one or more of the thematic areas being explored by the Alliances
B2 A good knowledge and awareness of Scottish government policy

C1 Ability to create creative and innovative ideas for content on a variety of channels, digital and traditional, and the specialist requirements of these channels.

E1 Experience of website content creation and maintenance in a Content Management System (CMS) environment

E5 Experience in leading a programme of digital marketing activity
E6 Experience of working in an academic environment and multi-disciplinary teams
Desirable
F1 Familiarity with University’s structures and organisation, particularly in relation to research, and the Research Excellence Framework (REF).
F2 Experience of liaising with external design agents /companies
F3 Proven track record in the development and delivery of marketing campaigns.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 6, £32,332 - £36,024 per annum.
This post is full time (35 hours per week) and fixed term until 31st October 2025.
