Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience in public/media relations, marketing, journalism or related field.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the institutional Marketing, Communications and Business Development Office, this role supports the university’s strategic priorities by employing a broad range of strategic marketing and communications skills to inform and engage internal and/or external audiences. This role plays a key part in advancing awareness of UTMB and its mission areas as well as driving clinical business to UTMB physicians, hospitals and other health care services.
The position is responsible for strategic evaluation, planning and tactical execution of marketing plans and activities, including advertising, collateral development, digital marketing and content creation/assessment for a variety of patient care related service lines and the institution as a whole. This role requires strong communication and collaboration skills, an ability to understand what is driving marketing performance, a proven ability to balance multiple projects and deadlines at once, and the expertise to review data to identify key insights and trends.
This position will collaborate with internal teams, university and department stakeholders, as well as external partners. Position includes direct communication and interaction with target audiences, as well as activities that facilitate communication by the President and other university executives, clinical departments, and university programs.
Job Duties:
- Develops marketing objectives based on strategic priorities of the organization and creates a cohesive plan with tactics to meet those objectives
- Writes ad copy and assists with design for marketing materials — print, web, direct mail, etc.
- Creates general collateral materials (patient/clinical content) which can be used for digital, print, social, etc.
- Conducts regular competitive landscape assessments to ensure UTMB’s marketing initiatives are well positioned in the marketplace
- Facilitates contractual agreements with third-party vendors and ensures deliverables including planning, execution, measurement and reporting
- Collaborates with internal audiences to develop creative concepts that further the strategic marketing objectives for the institution and the patient care service line.
- Helps develop and execute integrated marketing plans for clinical services
- Works with representatives from Health System, Education and Research missions as needed
- Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure
- Performs related duties as required
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong understanding of marketing fundamentals and the ability to adopt a strategic counseling mindset with regard to marketing initiatives
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, particularly as it relates to communicating UTMB’s story to our constituents throughout our primary service areas, the region and state
- Experience in the development and execution of integrated marketing and communications plans
- Demonstrates project management skills and the ability to manage marketing projects through its entire life cycle, from concept to launch to reporting
- Exhibits clear knowledge of marketing and communications tools, including digital, print, direct mail, new media, outdoor, television, and radio/streaming platforms
- Understands and supports the importance of brand identity in the development and deployment of marketing initiatives
- Experience tracking, analyzing and reporting results of marketing/social media campaigns
- Ability to work effectively and directly with people at all levels of the organization
- Must be able to work independently and collaboratively to prioritize and drive multiple projects forward
- Familiarity with the Adobe Creative Cloud applications, particularly InDesign and Photoshop, preferred
- Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of applications, particularly Word, PowerPoint and Excel
Work Schedule:
Partial remote, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm and as needed on occasion.
Salary Range:
Actual salary commensurate with experience.
