The Workboat Segment Marketing and Communications Manager will be instrumental in strategically positioning our products and services for success on a global basis.

Job Opportunity:

The Caterpillar Marine marketing team is seeking a highly strategic and organised individual to take global lead of the strategic direction, marketing plan development and execution for the workboat mega segment (tug, inland waterways, offshore, and dredge).

This role will be responsible for leading and executing the marketing communications plan based on the global segments and overall business strategy. This role is supported by senior staff to help analyse business trends, customer needs and competitive activities to develop a marketing communications plan to support worldwide business development for the segment. A critical function of this position is the cooperation with internal and external MarCom specialists delivering high quality marketing support materials on time and within budget. This role works directly with the sales, services, product and marketing teams to develop communication objectives and marketing plans for assigned segment strategies.

The Workboat Segment Marketing and Communications Manager is both creative and strategic, able to work effectively in a matrix organization, adept at synthesizing a variety of information and ideas into cohesive and strategic marketing plans.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee Omni Channel marketing & communications strategy, media & communication plans, timelines, and budgets for Caterpillar Marine’s Workboat segments to deliver on the company's vision, business strategy and values.

  • Identify targeted audiences and channels. Develop, coordinate, and implement targeted content and storyline through external communications channels and materials to position Caterpillar as the partner of choice for key industry players and end-customers, encourage partnerships to increase circularity, and establish coherent messaging and brand equity. Materials can include success stories, press and product releases, interviews, customer presentations, speeches and presentations for conferences, podcasts, market collaterals etc. Ensure sound communication across multiple and appropriate trade media in line with the overall communications strategy to extend Caterpillar’s visibility.

  • Support Caterpillar Marine’s go-to-market strategy for innovations (products, processes, solutions) by highlighting the unique value proposition and position Caterpillar Marine as a solution provider.

  • Create promotional activities using events, fairs, online campaigns, print media, and other communication vehicles to promote products, services and systems. Measure, review and evaluate results of activities continually.

  • Build and manage relationships with key specialized media to secure and grow media coverage online and offline globally. Position Caterpillar Marine as thought leader with a reputation for delivering real, tangible customer value.

  • Cooperate closely with the corporate MarCom team, utilize internal marketing and communications specialists for segment specific tasks and act as main global point of contact for the workboat mega segment globally.

  • Ensure effective cascade across the organization through close collaboration with the business, international dealerships, and Caterpillar’s key customers.

  • Establish joint marketing activities with key marine dealers & contribute to the strengthening, cooperation and alignment of marketing plans to dealer marketing plans.

Skills and Experience:

Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:

  • Experience in marketing, preferably in high-velocity B2B environment.

  • Demonstrable record of accomplishment in the development and execution of marketing communications.

  • Experience of working within an international environment.

  • Excellent/pragmatic verbal and written communication skills—clear, direct, concise.

  • Ability to convert consumer insights and technical information into customer value and innovative marketing programs that deliver.

  • Working knowledge of print, e-communications production, social media strategy and management.

  • Good experience in PR and press / media relations.

  • Strong computer and technology skills, must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Self-organised, proactive, and an excellent communicator.

  • Ability to multitask and achieve results through managing others within a global matrix organization.

  • Solid project management, organisation, and analytical skills.

Candidates may have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:

  • Experience or knowledge of a global dealer distribution network is a plus.
