Purpose of the Role
It’s an exciting time to join Merry Hill. With new stores and restaurants such as Nike Unite, Wagamama and Hollywood Bowl opening in 2023, a continuous programme of investment into the centre and a recent centre rebrand the next few years are going to see Merry Hill continue to transform and change.
This role supports the Marketing Department across a broad range of customer-focused marketing work as part of providing centre management services at Merry Hill shopping centre, a retail and leisure destination at the heart of the West Midlands.
The Marketing Assistant will support the marketing team to deliver compelling campaigns and a regular programme of activities to drive centre visits and excellent visitor experience, in-line with the centre’s annual marketing strategy and plan.
You’ll need good communication and organisation skills. We’ll consider candidates who can show they have the right enthusiasm and approach to day-to-day work rather than being an expert across the marketing world, although some marketing experience is helpful. Learning is key to the role; you’ll be willing to develop and build your marketing skills, in return we’ll provide ongoing training and support to help your knowledge, confidence and marketing ability grow.
Digital activity is central to the centre marketing and this role will involve what are often termed traditional and digital marketing tasks.
You’ll provide day-to-day support to the Marketing Co-ordinator, Assistant Marketing Manager and Marketing Manager. And also work closely alongside a range of other centre departments and the centre retailer community which includes over 175 stores, restaurants and leisure operators. And you’ll also be a part of managing the centre’s group of external agencies.
Key Responsibilities
Play an active, supporting role:
- …within the marketing team to support the delivery of the centre’s annual marketing plan in line with the overall centre strategy
- …to help deliver events, promotions and customer service to achieve marketing objectives in line with the annual marketing plan for the centre. At times – especially during November and December - this may mean occasional evening or weekend working, in return time off in lieu will be given
- …support the Assistant Marketing Manager to keep centre production updated in internal and external customer areas and ensure high standards are kept at all times
- …work with the Marketing Coordinator to deliver the centre’s digital marketing activities across our customer touchpoints such as the centre website, email CRM, digital media screens, social media channels, app to prompt visits and deliver high customer satisfaction
- …work with the Marketing Coordinator to complete tasks that deliver the centre’s website plan - monitoring and refreshing content, promoting events, celebrating key dates and retail moments in the annual calendar, all to drive centre visitation
- …alongside the Marketing Team to develop content ideas for the centre content plan, including retailer activity, giving our audiences reasons to visit the centre and creating awareness.
- …play an active part in ensuring that all marketing and general communications, including collateral produced for brands, visitors, local community stakeholders, community partners, colleagues or commercial partners, is in line with Merry Hill’s brand guidelines and sign off is through the correct approvals process
- …assist with the evaluation of all marketing activities, as well as ensuring that regular monthly and weekly reporting is completed
- …build good relationships with the centre retailer community through regular face-to-face visits, raising awareness of marketing campaigns, the support we offer and opportunities we provide to signpost their stores, experiences and services
- …manage all visitor literature in the centre, making sure that it is current, regularly replenished and that stock levels are being monitored in conjunction with the Customer Services team.
- …provide administrative support to the Marketing Team where required and work in conjunction with all Merry Hill colleagues to proactively maintain consistently high standards across the centre
- …to ensure compliance with the Company’s Health & Safety policy
- …in any other duties as appropriate.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Candidates will be required to demonstrate the following:
Essential
- You can put the customer first and you’re able to provide a helpful and polite service
- You can use a full range of Microsoft 365 applications inc. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Some experience in online platforms
- Reliable, helpful, on time and well presented
- You can work in a friendly but fast paced team, alongside other departments or alone under the direction of a senior colleague
- Good written and verbal communication
- You can sensitively handle confidential information
- You have good organisation, you can manage your time to get your tasks done and with guidance you can prioritise in a calm way
- You can work to deadlines
- You’re careful, conscientious and can see the detail but not get bogged down by it
- You’re willing to learn on the job, keen to undertake training, learn and develop
Desirable
- Knowledgeable of Merry Hill and the West Midlands
- Junior marketing, communications or customer service experience or related training
- Some experience using online platforms for managing work tasks and the evaluating the success of work
Working Hours - 40 hours per week
Salary - £21,750
