Head of Market Regulation
Centrica Energy Marketing & Trading (EM&T) is the trading arm of Centrica. We trade LNG, gas, power and energy attributes - and connect independent producers, suppliers and corporate off-takers in the wholesale energy markets. We move and trade energy to satisfy the changing needs of customers.
We provide our clients with the best route-to-market services available to the market today, integrating sophisticated software, trading and structuring and optimizing exposures all the way from long term risk management down to physical trading seconds before delivery. In EM&T we have a diversified portfolio of energy assets under management, and we represent the new generation of energy traders, leading our customers to value on low-carbon, digital energy markets across the World. Our offices span across London, Denmark, Germany, Sweden and Singapore.
As our business sets up for further growth, we are looking for a Head of Market Regulation to join our Market Regulation team. The Market Regulation team is a rapidly developing part of Centrica’s Energy Marketing & Trading’s wider Ethics & Compliance (E&C) function who are responsible for an effective framework which manages our risks related to market abuse, financial market regulation, market operator and exchange/venue rule compliance.
As a Head of Market Regulation, you will have a high degree of exposure to senior management and external trade associations with direct line management responsibilities. You’ll be responsible for managing all regulatory compliance matters across EM&T globally and you also require a strong knowledge of areas such as REMIT, MAR, Market operators and exchange/trading venue rules.
Location: This role can be based out of our London, Aalborg or Copenhagen offices, however, the successful candidate must be comfortable with international travel (circa 15%).
About the Role:
You will be required to support on the understanding, analysing and interpreting of financial services and market abuse regulation (EMIR, MiFID, MAR and REMIT) in the UK, EU and national markets impacting our trading activity, as well as rules impacting our renewables origination and asset optimisation businesses. You will also:
Monitor the relevant regulatory landscape and communicate this effectively to the commercial teams
Engage with internal stakeholders e.g. originators and Front Office staff on a regular basis to identify and prioritise regulatory reforms that are key to the company interests
Undertake detailed impact assessments for all market abuse of financial Services regulatory change that will impact EM&T
Establish and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders including regulatory authorities, industry system operators, trading venues, service providers and other parties
Represent Centrica’s interests across a range of trade association workstreams, contributing to consultation responses and developing policy positions
Identify regulatory trends to enable the leadership team to take strategic choices
Develop and maintain a regulatory mapping for EM&T
Support the Compliance COO and Head of E&C in delivery of the EM&T Regulatory change programme
Support and develop the Market Regulation team
About You:
A Regulatory expert with strategic, technical, economics or legal qualification(s) and energy sector or financial services experience
Languages: Fluency in Danish or other European languages such as German are highly desired
Proven experience advising on the scope and impact of relevant legislation and regulation to the EM&T business
An understanding of financial services, market abuse in wholesale energy markets, balancing markets, trading, regulatory reporting, origination and the policy framework within which commercial companies like Centrica EM&T operate
Able to anticipate and keep abreast of external developments that may influence the evolution of wholesale energy markets
Ability to think and act strategically, identifying regulatory risks and opportunities and managing these effectively
Strong stakeholder management skills: excellent verbal, presentation and reasoning skills adaptable to the audience, ability to build constructive relationships at all levels and excellent analytical and conceptual thinking skills
Able to work flexibly, across a wide range of high profile and fast-moving commercial and strategic issues
