WHAT TO EXPECT
This role will be responsible for the creation, publication and maintenance of the Bill of Process (BOP) for a number of commodities sitting within the vehicle and Electric Battery and Driver (EBD). It will also develop a Commodity Library to document our current working practices, and use this information to drive commonality and implement best practice across our plants, capture benchmarking information and input into future Commodity Strategy. The role will also support problem investigation on current vehicle lines as the ‘technical’ expert for there area of commodity ownership.
It will also provide manufacturing engineering and technical support to design and develop manufacturing production processes to enable successful launch of new products, ensuring feasibility of all designs to suit manufacturing build requirements, Design for Assembly (DFA) and compliance with the BOP. This includes the creation of process, tools, jigs & fixtures, quality, data analysis and reporting of major issues, deployment of failure mode avoidance tools, support of cross-functional teams in the resolution of those issues on projects and the tracking of resolution through to completion.
You’ll be part of a team of engineers which requires collaboration across functions to ensure we have established compliance with the BOP to deliver processes that meet our basic minute value (BMV) and quality targets, visits to the plants to verify compliance of process to BOP and to identify any further improvements will be part of core activities. It is also important for us to share best practice across the platforms and between manufacturing plants to ensure we employ the best processes available wherever possible.
Key Responsibilities
Bill of Process- Commodity Library & Commodity Strategy
- PR-AIMS resolution
- Manufacturing engineering contribution within agile teams
- Current problem investigation and support
- Application of Lean Manufacturing and Design principles
- Attend programme meetings at all levels and present where applicable
- Feasibility of all designs to suit manufacturing build requirements – Design for manufacturing (DFM)
- Build process strategy for manufacturing
- Planning and developing of all written Processes for manufacturing
- Planning and developing of all tooling, jigs and fixtures for manufacturing
- Process Capability of all processes and equipment, including Dimensional Management applications
- Quality Planning and Analysis for Manufacturing
- Involvement in the departments work through monitoring of timing plans
- Ensure adherence to Integrated Production System (IPS) deliverables
- Manage technical issues and escalate where appropriate
- Contribute in the development and submission of departmental responses to product letters etc
- Support virtual build events, raising and managing issues where appropriate
- Support physical builds at Plant locations, raising and managing issues where appropriate
- Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their role
- Driving lessons learnt from current programs into Bill of Process
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Essential:
- Relevant previous experience of Manufacturing / Engineering processes, tools and techniques
- Flexible approach to job responsibilities and working hours
- Demonstrable ability to create detailed and effective action plans
- Ability to manage 3D models tools (CAD) and mechanical engineering principles
Desirable:
- Ideally educated to degree level in Manufacturing or a similar engineering discipline
- Able to prepare and present business case to show risk vs benefits of a manufacturing/Product design solution
- Knowledge of and involvement in the product development phase
- Project management experience
- Understanding of IPS requirements & Lean Manufacturing
- GD&T deep knowledge (able to perform tolerance stack up)
