Your new role
Working from our fantastic UK Manufacturing site based in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, Hitachi Rail are recruiting for Manufacturing Engineering Technicians to join the team. As a Manufacturing Engineering Technician you will work across the spectrum of engineering activities and disciplines in line with project requirements.
PLEASE NOTE THIS ROLE IS FIXED TERM CONTRACT/SECONDMENT

Applicants should be able to demonstrate all of the essential requirements listed below:
Essential
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated & results-orientated
- End-to-end ownership mentality with good decision making skills
- Excellent communication and social skills
- Computer literate (MS Excel / Word / PowerPoint)
- Strong organisational skills with a keen eye for detail
- Commitment to working as part of a team
- Willingness to partake in business travel to our sister plants in Italy & Japan, sometimes for several weeks during the development phase of new projects
- Willingness to learn new skills and adopt company standards
- An understanding of Health and Safety requirements within a working environment
- Strong character, willing to challenge people and current processes to improve efficiency
Qualifications
- Engineering and manufacturing experience, and ideally further education in an engineering discipline (ONC/OND or equivalent NVQ)
Desirable Requirements
- Recognised engineering apprenticeship
- Possess previous manufacturing engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
- Any prior working knowledge of SAP would be highly desirable , particularly SAP PP, MM and particularly CEWB creation of MBOMS
- Experience of working with a PLM system such as Teamcentre or Windchill
Role responsibilities include…
- Work flexibly across the spectrum of Manufacturing Engineering activities and disciplines in line with varied project requirements.
- Responsibility for checking accuracy of manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOM’s).
- Interpreting engineering drawings
- Promote best practice and safe working procedures
- Participate in L4 competency sign off process
- Provide manufacturing engineering support to production/test facility
- Work analysis, method study and labour utilisation analysis
- Development of standard documented operating procedures
- Initiation and participation in Kaizen activities
- Maintenance of accurate on-system information to support production (this could include SAP, Windchill, Sharepoint or other future system as needed)
