Reports to: Quality Manager

Classification: Exempt

Department: Manufacturing

General Scope:
The Manufacturing Engineer helps integrate new products into production and helps resolve issues on the production line. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join Monterey & Blackfin. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will play a vital role in optimizing our production processes, enhancing efficiency, and ensuring high-quality boat manufacturing. Your expertise in manufacturing techniques, process improvements, and project management will contribute to the successful delivery of our exceptional marine vessels.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Manufacturing Tasks:

  • Act as a liaison between manufacturing and engineering.
  • Develop and refine manufacturing processes: Analyze current manufacturing procedures, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety in boat production.
  • Process design and optimization: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design engineers and production supervisors, to develop efficient and cost-effective manufacturing methods, considering factors such as materials, equipment, and labor requirements.
  • Continuous improvement: Lead initiatives to identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reductions, and quality enhancement. Implement manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to streamline workflows and eliminate wastes.
  • Works closely with vendors to make improvements to the product or process.
  • Quality control and assurance: Develop and implement quality control procedures, including inspection plans, testing protocols, and product specifications, to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Research and resolve stockroom counter log.
  • Documentation and reporting: Maintain accurate records of manufacturing processes, equipment maintenance, and quality control activities. Generate reports on production metrics, defects, and improvement initiatives to support decision-making.
  • Training and support: Provide technical guidance and training to production staff, ensuring their understanding and adherence to standardized manufacturing processes and safety protocols.
  • Understands the importance of value-added work and strives to eliminate non-value-added work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Engineering Support Tasks:

  • Red line printed documentation and correct as needed.
  • Support new product integrations as required.
  • Make CNC edits and changes.
  • Write ECNs as needed.
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional teams to execute new product development projects, including process design, prototype production, and scale-up to full-scale manufacturing.
  • Ensure adequate jigs and fixtures are available and being used properly.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably within the boat building or marine industry. Strong technical knowledge: Proficiency in manufacturing processes, production planning, materials selection, and quality control. Familiarity with composite materials and boat construction techniques is highly desirable. Demonstrated expertise in process optimization, lean manufacturing principles, and Six Sigma methodologies. Experience with tools such as Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, and 5S is advantageous. Proven track record of successfully leading and participating in cross-functional projects, from concept to implementation, within specified timelines and budgetary constraints. Analytical and problem-solving skills: Ability to analyze complex manufacturing problems, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions. Experience with statistical analysis and data-driven decision-making is beneficial. CAD Experience desired as well as strong working knowledge of MS Excel. Communication and teamwork: Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams, including designers, technicians, and production personnel. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. While performing these duties, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes, or airborne particles; toxic, flammable, or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat and regularly exposed to the risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The remainder of the day is in a typical office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet unless in areas where personal protective equipment is required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80.00 - $85.00 per year
