Position Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Manufacturing Engineer to join the UK Engineering team based at Great Western Road, Glasgow.

Managing a team of Line Engineers (inc. multiskilled); the Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for delivering engineering support for our Manufacturing facility at GWR with primary focus on our Bottling and Premium Packaging work areas. This is a hands-on management role, with the primary focus being to manage and oversee team workload but with an understanding that there will be a proportion of active involvement in work completion. Documentation and implementation of safe systems of work (Permits, Isolations, Risk Assessment and Methods) are key responsibilities along with the management of contractors / subcontractors to the same standards of safety, compliance, and quality.

Job Description

In addition, the job holder will work in conjunction with the Process Engineering Manager and Project Engineers to support the delivery of Capital and Revenue projects being managed by the department. Reporting to Process Engineering Manager, key responsibilities include:
  • Managing a team of Line Engineers covering key areas of staff development, performance review and workload planning and execution.
  • Delivering appropriate training to production operators on new equipment and facilities including development and updating of safe systems of work through risk assessment and safe ways of working
  • Working in collaboration with engineering and production colleagues to deliver:
    • Safe and efficient and operation of our bottling resources to achieve our targets of service, quality, and cost
    • Delivery of NPD projects with support for the testing, commissioning and introduction of new products and modifications to existing packs
    • Delivery of our legislative compliance across key statutory inspections; including Lifting plant and equipment
    • Implementation of Capital and Revenue improvement projects maximising maintenance effectiveness and minimising productivity losses.
    • Maximising equipment effectiveness and plant productivity in their area of responsibility.
    • Timely completion of job cards and work orders.
    • Timely completion of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) regimes.
  • Responding to callouts from production personnel, prioritising compliance concerns and escalating appropriately.
  • Analysing and assessing production during day-to-day operations, making recommendations for equipment efficiency and productivity improvements.
  • Effective identification and involvement in the resolution of any deficiencies in engineering compliance (COMAH, DSEAR, PUWER).

Skills and Experience

To take on the challenge of this role we are looking for candidates who have a background in an engineering discipline. Completion of a recognised engineering apprenticeship or engineering degree qualification is essential, with experience commensurate to this level of role, utilising these skills in a demanding manufacturing environment. A sound knowledge and practical understanding of Health and Safety legislation and statutory requirements is desired, although full training and support will be available.
