The Role
Apprentices are responsible for their own safety and the safe operation of their area. They report to the vocational training coordinator and are responsible for supporting all aspects of the operations and ultimately customer.
Within the role, you will be expected to ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with local and works IMS procedures in order to provide a safe working environment.
Apprentices will be working Monday-Friday 08:00am-4:00pm during apprenticeship with day release to attend college to undertake BTEC qualification, on completion of apprenticeship they will join manufacturing team as a manufacturing operative working the 12-hour shift pattern, with 12-day breaks.
As a manufacturing apprentice you will have responsibility for:
- Health and safety performance adhering to the works IMS procedures and involvement in various safety improvement activities.
- Completion of level 3 enhanced engineering apprenticeship programme
- Operation of equipment within their work area to defined procedures to achieve agreed objectives.
- Planned maintenance of the manufacturing line, preventative maintenance as per maintenance schedule.
- Participation in audits / checks, ensuring compliance with work procedures and set quality standards.
- Involvement with line / warehouse operations, which can involve operation of cranes, FLTs and mobile plant and equipment.
- Use of SAP for recording and reporting purposes.
- Involvement in continuous improvement activity.
- Liaising with functions including transport, warehouse, packing, PPC and others to ensure efficient material flow.
- Having sufficient competence and flexibility to work on any of the Manufacturing Lines when needed.
- Aspects of the job may include manual handling.
Apprentices will receive a structured training plan across all functions and will be exposed to all aspects of the manufacturing department.
Training will include:
- Overhead Crane Cab Driving Course
- Forklift Truck Counterbalance training
- Slinging and Pendant training
- Confined Space training
- Line based modular training.
- Personal development and coaching to encourage maximum potential.
The Candidate
To be considered for our Manufacturing Apprenticeship Programme you will need to have 5 GCSEs or equivalent (including English Language, Maths & Science) at C/4 Grade or above.
Applicants should preferably have knowledge of the Manufacturing Lines and the products we produce.
Knowledge of the works computer system (SAP) coupled with basic IT skills is desirable.
Engineering skills and driving licence would be advantageous dependant on department.
Candidates for this role should also:
- Have good team working skills and abilities.
- Possess good problem solving skills and decision-making capabilities.
- Be a self-starter and demonstrate a proactive attitude to work and a willingness to learn.
- Possess a drive to achieve the objectives / targets of the department.
- Have strong communication skills.
