The Department of Biology at the University of York is looking to appoint a new specialist administrator position to work with Professor Luke Alphey. Candidates will possess excellent organisational skills to provide a first class administrative support service to the lab head and lab members. This part-time (60% FTE) position is funded from a Wellcome Trust award to Prof Luke Alphey who is leading an international consortium, developing new methods for control of mosquito-borne diseases. The successful applicant will coordinate the smooth running of the project and provide administrative support to the wider Alphey group, whilst adhering to University policies and procedures.
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
- Experience of organising and co-ordinating small-scale events/ projects.
- Acting as the first point of contact for the Lab Head and Lab colleagues and manage Lab budget/expenses.
- Develop a sound understanding of the areas of responsibility that fall within the Lab Group’s remit.
- Ability to gather and analyse report information, delivering a quality service in a collaborative working environment, whilst identifying and implementing continuous improvement.
- Experience of procurement and financial recording and monitoring.
- Organise and co-ordinate travel for Lab Head and Lab group
- Manage all aspects of the lab documents and schedules, e.g. scan/ archive lab books, generate and maintain rotas for key activities, schedule room bookings.
- Experience of high-level committee servicing.
