Job description
Connect to your Industry
The increasing level of regulatory scrutiny and investigations which we and the profession as a whole are facing highlights the importance of maintaining our quality record and reputation in the marketplace.
At the same time, we are operating in a constantly changing environment. In the aftermath of COVID, we face an energy crisis, greater volatility in financial markets, as well as geopolitical uncertainty and a weaker economic outlook.
It is critical that we manage audit risk throughout the entire lifecycle, implementing an effective ‘Portfolio Risk Review’ programme, supporting the business to make the right engagement acceptance and continuance decisions, as well as manage complex issues on live engagements.
Across UK A&A our purpose is ‘protecting the public interest and building trust and confidence in business’. Our aspiration in respect of quality is ‘Leading in quality wherever we serve by achieving a consistent and widely recognised standard of excellence’. Our Risk, Regulation and Policy team therefore plays a critical role in the firm achieving this ambition.
Why join the Risk, Regulation & Public Policy team at Deloitte? What makes our risk team different from other Big 4/ mid-tier risk teams?
Audit Transparency Report | Deloitte UK
- Our AQR scores are strong - see appendix 7 of transparency report. For example, we have had no non-compliant audits in the last three FRC inspections.
People who join our risk team will be able to learn what “good looks like” - e.g. in comparison to mid-tier firms and will join well established teams.
We have achieved this by making significant investments in our risk team. People joining our team will be able to learn how to successfully manage risk - both on live engagements and when they go into FRC case examination/ investigation.
- Our team and roles are much more than “technical” roles - we play an active role in shaping and delivering the firm’s strategic objectives. Audit Quality & Risk have not the usual 1 but 2 seats on the Audit Executive - demonstrating the strategic role we play.
Our senior risk professionals get regular opportunities to meet with members of the Audit Executive and Audit Governance Board - helping to develop ‘executive’ skills.
- The varied opportunities which our team offers-we do not operate in ‘silos’ - our risk professionals work across a variety of workstreams in our group, to maximise their experience. In addition, there are opportunities to exposure to ‘client’ work - particularly high-risk audits if desired. However, there is no obligation to do client facing work.
- Team infrastructure - we have invested heavily in our team and have over 70 individuals across London and Cardiff. This allows our senior risk professionals to focus on the most complex risk issues and gives them the project management and reporting function support they need to deliver their programmes.
Deloitte drives progress. Using our vast range of expertise, that covers audit, risk advisory, and consulting services across tax, legal, business, technology and corporate finance, we help our clients become leaders wherever they choose to compete. To do this, we invest in outstanding people. We build teams of future thinkers, with diverse talents and backgrounds, and empower them all to reach for and achieve more.
What brings us all together at Deloitte? It’s how we approach the thousands of decisions we make every day. How we behave, our beliefs and our attitudes. In other words: our values. Whatever we do, wherever we are in the world, we lead the way, serve with integrity, take care of each other, foster inclusion, and collaborate for measurable impact. These five shared values lead every decision we make and action we take, guiding us to deliver impact how and where it matters most.
