Job Summary

The main purposes of the Manager, Record Curation Team role are:

1. To govern assigned record categories to maintain consistency on how records are created, validated and described at Guinness World Records (GWR).

2. To build on the content and records acknowledged by GWR.

3. To look at risk and legality, working closely with our Legal and commercial teams on our Product and Company record process advising on research methodologies to establish new titles.

The role of Manager exists within the Record Curation Team within the Central Record Services team. They are responsible for maintaining the integrity and consistency in record titles monitored by Guinness World Records. They are also charged with collaborative work with parties both internal and external to GWR to further develop the records available and our policies supporting them.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Record maintenance

  • Managers govern a set of record categories and to guarantee consistency on how records are created, validated and described at Guinness World Records (GWR). This role works closely at our commercial record breaking deals and advises on the process of a product or company being awarded a record.
  • Managers in the Record Curation Team, provide clear information about their categories to all offices and update specific record guidelines and category guidelines. Advising on the best methodologies to achieve a record.
  • The managers role is also to look after the existing records within their set of categories in the internal database, this includes cleansing data, detecting and correcting errors, discontinuing records categories and updating record titles and terminologies to reflect current standards and trends.
  • Managers are expected to have an in-depth knowledge of all the record categories overseen proactive research, highlighting achievements for underrepresented holders within the remit of protected characteristics.
  • Managers offer creative solutions and innovative record formats within their categories to the wider company. Strongly results orientated and exceptional eye for detail and can alert the wider company to risk and liability.
  • First reviewer on the company and product records and advising global teams of the process and accepting titles on a range of complex subject matters.
  • Complete and maintain a handbook for each category detailing the format, main exclusions, terminology, titles conventions and Q&A.
  • Review existing Guidelines on an ongoing basis ensuring they are relevant and fully reflective of what happens at an actual record attempt.
  • Support Senior Records Managers and Head of Curation in reviewing rejection appeals, according to an agreed process.

Research and Analysis

  • Support the Editorial Team with the reviewing of specialist spreads, suggesting and researching records for the GWR books, reviewing and approving talent requests.
  • Support internal GWR departments with specialist knowledge on record related projects as advised by RMT.
  • Work with a variety of consultants within their specialist areas and undertaking new research.
  • Experience in researching information and verifying the reliability of sources and approving market research and scientific resource methodologies which will validate record claims.
  • Proactively research record titles and areas which relate to their specialism, to find gaps within our record keeping.
  • Find potential record holders or contributors who can be featured in our digital channels and publications, or work with our commercial teams.
  • Work with Federations and governing bodies who approve record titles, updating our systems with new titles and helping them achieve new records.

Customer service

  • The Record Curation Team receives regular and detailed feedback about their work from International Offices and other Internal Customers as they are accountable to local Records Management teams, International offices and other Internal Customers for their support work.
  • Working positively to achieve goals and targets and understanding the needs of all partners internally or externally, enabling and encouraging a supportive framework of collaboration.

Additional responsibilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, externally and internally.
  • General office duties working with Microsoft products, word, Excel, teams etc.
  • Attending and contribute to meetings and undertake presentations.
  • Contribute to brainstorm and creative sessions, being available for conference calls with other offices to share knowledge about specific categories.
  • Responsibilities for updating the website with record information.

Challenges of the role

  • The role will be primarily remote working so an emphasis will be placed on working autonomously.
  • Dealing with a wide variety of new research topics and tasks at any one-time so the ability to manage time effectively and prioritise workload will be important to the role.
  • Knowledge of legality and brand integrity to up hold our company values.
  • Dealing with all urgent requests according to agreed deadlines and deadline assessment.
  • Dealing with a variety of requests from different international offices and adapting to different time zones.

Job requirements and Qualification

Education/Background

  • Degree in legal or law experience.
  • Market research experience (qualitative will be preferable).
  • Higher education (A Level/BTEC - or equivalent) certificate in Maths and/or Physics.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Good analytical and critical thinking.
  • Ability to convert specialised topics to terms understood by the general public.
  • Critical thinking: examining the truth and validity of arguments and evaluating the relative importance of ideas, applying reason and logic to determine the merits of record claims, and drawing and evaluating conclusions from logical arguments and data analysis.
  • Capable of working remotely and independently, as well as within a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, externally and internally.
  • Ability to convert specialised topics to terms understood by the general public.
  • Capable of working proactively and multitasking.
  • Cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage personal time.
  • Enthusiastic with a passion for a wide range of topics and the Guinness World Records brand.
