Opportunity


EY is currently working across the capital markets globally with institutional investors, banking, private equity and insurance clients, developing strategies, designing and building innovative solutions to move forward on sustainable finance, meeting regulatory requirements and positioning for success in this rapidly evolving market. Our client work often draws on scenarios to inform assessments of both physical and transition risks, to identify opportunities and to support financial institutions in developing their climate strategies so as to better manage their own risks and to support the wider transition to a Net Zero climate-resilient society.


We are seeking to appoint a high-performing individual with relevant experience as a Manager (Climate Risk and Climate Scenarios) in our Financial Services CCaSS team. You will join a friendly purpose-driven team of [around 50] within EY’s wider group of over 3,000 climate change and sustainability practitioners globally, presenting a unique opportunity to support a wide range of client projects on climate risk and climate scenario analysis.


Topics we cover in CCaSS include:

  • Climate change risk modelling and scenario analysis
  • Carbon-intensive sectoral top-down and bottom-up pathways analysis
  • Sustainable finance and net zero strategies for financial services
  • Climate change metrics and targets, including SBTi
  • Assurance over ESG/climate metrics
  • Greenhouse gas reporting, including the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and PCAF
  • Sustainable Finance regulatory developments, such as SFDR and EU Taxonomy
  • Responsible, sustainable and impact investment strategies and implementation
  • Reporting and disclosure, including the application of TCFD, SASB and other frameworks
  • Stewardship and engagement (active ownership)


Key responsibilities

  • Supporting design and management of the climate risk and climate scenario engagements with appropriate consideration of risk and technical matters.
  • You will work with various teams on engagements, keeping a clear focus on anticipating and identifying risks and opportunities.
  • You will deliver operational efficiency on projects and play a key role on internal initiatives, consistently driving projects to completion making sure that the work delivered is industry leading.
  • You will help create innovative commercial insights for clients, adapt methods and practices to fit operational team and cultural needs
  • Working closely with colleagues at all levels (from interns to senior partners),
  • You will contribute to the development of EY capabilities in technical areas and engage with clients regarding the application of these methodologies to their businesses.
  • You will collaborate with colleagues outside of Sustainable Finance to deliver multi-disciplinary and cross-geographical work.

Qualifications

We welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds, but are particularly interested in individuals that have the following qualifications:

  • Track record of success from 5+ years of relevant experience, with a significant proportion in climate risk and climate scenario analysis or other relevant experience
  • Very strong applied analytical skills including quantitative scenario modelling used to solve real-world problems, ideally including long-term energy and climate scenarios
  • Deriving marginal abatement cost curves (MACC) for a number of sectors/industries, and sound knowledge of climate analytical tools
  • Experience running or contributing to a range of climate risk and/or scenario analysis projects, including for example identification and quantification of decarbonisation levers, policies and actions for different institutions, financial and corporate.
  • Experience in climate risk and knowledge of financial services, either as part of an institution; in an advisory or business consulting capacity to such organisations or in the regulation of such institutions
  • Risk management background would be a plus
  • Strong academic record including a quantitative degree, ideally related to climate science, energy transition, energy economics or climate risk.
  • Knowledge of scenario development requirements by regulator, alliances and frameworks such as TCFD, NZBA, PCAF, SBTI, BoE PRA, etc.
