The Virginia Management Fellows (VMF) Program is hiring a sixth cohort of emerging professionals with a commitment to public service and an interest in full-time employment in state government. The VMF is hiring Fellows for the two-year program beginning August 25, 2023, and ending August 26, 2025. The VMF program is seeking applicants who are diverse in thought, educational background, experience, expertise, culture, and ethnicity.
The VMF program acts as a talent pipeline for attracting, developing, and employing a diverse early career workforce in the Commonwealth of Virginia state government. The program bridges recent graduates with an interest in public service careers and supports state government workforce planning. The program successfully provides mentorship, professional development (with an emphasis on leadership and management training), and hands-on work experience allowing Fellows to begin their state government careers post-Fellowship with value-added impact.
Selected Fellows are full-time employees in a two-year state-level service and professional development program. Learning state government in “real-time,” Fellows will work at three state agencies for eight-month periods. Fellows will develop new skills in their chosen career track and establish meaningful connection points with agency employees. Rotations are managed by highly motived and trained agency mentors and supervisors. All Fellows are expected to commute to their respective assigned agencies and be able to participate in professional development activities in the greater Richmond, Virginia area. While there is a possibility for a hybrid telework schedule, it will greatly depend upon the rotation agency Fellows are assigned.
Fellows are expected to continue their state service at the end of their two-year Fellowship. VMF program leaders will support job search activities throughout the two-year program to assist Fellows in finding permanent roles to continue their state employment.
