The Manager has 24-hour responsibility for the management of the Care Home.
To ensure the Care Home operates in accordance with the requirements of the relevant regulatory bodies.
Through leadership and management strategies facilitate the development of the Care Home.
Provide and maintain effective management and leadership promoting high standards of safely delivered personal care in a person-centred way.
To create a culture of resident focused and responsive services which are aimed at empowering and involving residents.
Management.
To act as a role model leading by example in attitude, behaviour and conduct.
To adopt an open management style which facilitates a working environment to promote team working and one which supports learning and development.
Ensure all records as required by the Company, regulatory and statutory bodies are maintained appropriately. Reporting incidents as necessary.
To manage the use of resources effectively.
To manage and maintain agreed budgets taking corrective action and providing reports as necessary.
To assist in drawing up an annual development plan for the Care Home and review the implementation of the plan.
To encourage the staff team through reflective analysis to develop the care and services provided facilitating, managing and evaluating change processes
To respect the privileged relationships which exist with residents practising integrity in all dealings with their personal and financial affairs.
Marketing
To assist in the development and review of a marketing plan to maximise the occupancy of the Care Home.
Actively market the Care Home and develop links which always establishes the Care Home as part of the local community ensuring a good reputation.
Respond to resident vacancies by liaising with placement agencies.
Ensure assessment of potential residents are carried out promptly and an appropriate fee agreed.
Ensure the care needs of residents are reviewed at least monthly and as necessary a reassessment requested from the placing authority to ensure fees are compatible with the resident’s care needs. For residents who are self-funding a care review should be held with the resident and/or their representative and their changing needs discussed, and new fee structure agreed.
Staff Development
As necessary ensure staff receive appropriate support and supervision in their duties.
To ensure a programme for the development of staff by way of staff appraisal and supervision is implemented.
To draw up on an annual basis a training programme to include mandatory training, the needs of the Care Home and the staff team.
Human Resources
Whilst the role of Manager is regarded as supernumerary you will be required to cover on shift if necessary.
To implement recruitment processes to ensure staff skill mix to fulfil the Company aims and meet the needs of the residents.
To ensure all new employees complete an appropriate period of orientation and induction.
To arrange appropriate staff levels by way of numbers and skill mix to cover the duty rota. Ensuring appropriate allocation of staff on a shift by shift basis to take account of the needs of the residents, skills of the staff and compliance with the required staffing levels.
To maintain accurate records by way of a duty rota of the hours worked by all staff employed at the home and any agency staff used.
To effectively manage staff, leave (annual, maternity and sickness) ensuring adequate staff cover of the duty rota.
To monitor use of Agency staff, reporting on such use as required giving rationale and costs.
To monitor staff leavers, staff absenteeism and sickness.
Implement the Company disciplinary and grievance procedures.
To organise an on-call rota for the Care Home.
Resident Care and Services.
Ensure personal care is always delivered to a high standard by demonstrating ability to develop and empower the staff team acting as a role model.
Co-ordinate and appropriately delegate the care and services provided to residents.
To ensure that residents care records are reviewed at appropriate intervals, at least monthly and that these are completed and updated accurately, involving residents in the review of their care.
To ensure that at the point of admission and as part of the on-going review process that the care needs of the resident can be met by the Care Home.
To review and evaluate all accidents to residents, untoward incidents and resident admission to hospital ensuring as necessary care interventions are updated.
Through regular monitoring ensure that correct procedures are implemented to maintain safe handling, storage and administration of medication.
To adopt an approach to care which recognises residents as individuals, promotes flexibility, respects choice and involves residents.
Create an environment which supports residents to express their views.
Communication.
To be responsible for accurate and effective communication between professional colleagues, visitors and the staff team.
Organise resident and staff meetings to take place on a regular basis.
Liaise/meet with appropriate catering, domestic and other support staff to ensure services meet the required standards.
Quality
To co-ordinate and as necessary carry out audits of the care and services provided to include feedback from residents, professional colleagues and visitors.
To utilise the results of audits to develop and improve the service.
Be responsible for the investigation of complaints/concerns in accordance with the Company policy reporting to management as necessary. Based on the outcome of the investigation ensure corrective action is implemented.
To contribute to the review and updating of Company policies and procedures.
General
To demonstrate that your personal competence is up to date.
Contribute to the continuing development of the home through professional self-development and the promotion of evidence-based practice
As necessary undertake care duties.
Health and Safety
As the responsible person ensure that the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and Fire regulations are adhered to and as appropriate any matters are reported to the Company.
Implement and monitor systems which ensure the security of the Care Home.
