Job description
Purpose
To undertake building maintenance duties at the Shaftesbury Theatre, a grade II listed building which includes general day to day repairs, planned maintenance and debris removal. This will involve practical duties and working/liaison with sub-contractors in delegated areas. The post holder reports to the Maintenance Supervisor. Their line manager is the Operations Director.
The Maintenance Team plays a critical role in keeping the Theatre in a fit and functioning state that is to the satisfaction of the Company, producers and those who hire the Theatre for other functions. It is an essential role that ensures that the individuals and companies who work in Theatre are able to carry out their tasks without undue impediment.
Duties
- To provide a first class level of maintenance of all the building fabric in the Shaftesbury Theatre
- To contribute to devising, reviewing and operating the maintenance procedures to ensure that they are efficient and effective at all times.
- To undertake work, as appropriate, on fabric of the building and equipment to ensure it is efficient, safe and in keeping with its listed status. Ensuring adherence to operational procedures, effective routine maintenance, cleaning and implementation of any agreed programme of replacement.
- To carry out regular maintenance inspections of the building to ensure that all areas are maintained to the highest standards reporting any shortcomings as appropriate to the Operations Director.
- To carry out scheduled checks of equipment as part of the Theatre’s ongoing Health and Safety procedures.
- To work as instructed by the Operations Director to overhaul the fabric of the Theatre building (non-technical areas).
- To ensure that all activities are carried out to the highest standard.
- To maintain adequate stocks of parts, hardware and general supplies for the maintenance of the building.
- To assist in the delivery of the Theatre’s Environmental Objectives.
- To work on any special project as identified by the Operations Director.
- To support the Theatre’s communication objectives by sharing information with colleagues as appropriate whilst respecting confidentiality so that you and your colleagues have all the information you need to perform your duties effectively.

Person Specification
Essential
- Educated to a good general standard
- Numerically literate
- The ability to work to tight deadlines
- Good general decoration, carpentry and maintenance skills
- The ability to communicate effectively at all levels
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office)
- The ability to work under pressure
- A flexible attitude to working patterns

Desirable
- Knowledge and/or qualifications in:
o Carpentry
o Painting
o Plumbing and Drainage
o Manual Handling
o Working at height
- Previous experience of working on a listed building
- Good social skills
- A passion for Theatre
