Caledon State Park, located in King George, is seeking applicants for the Trades Technician I position. The Trades Tech I assists the park ranger with maintenance and upkeep of grounds, facilities, trails, roads and resource management projects within the park. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, routine mowing and weed eating, trash pickup, trail work, equipment maintenance, light construction, and custodial tasks as necessary. The incumbent will also operate a variety of hand tools including, but not limited to: hammers, hand saws, hand pruners, loppers, shovels, sledge hammers, picks, mattocks, and axes. This position will also operate a variety of power hand tools including, but not limited to: weed eater, pressure washer, blower, chainsaw, paint sprayer, circular saw, reciprocating saw, and drills of various types. The incumbent will also operate specialized equipment including UTVs, tractors, mowers, mini excavators, skid steers, etc. This position will perform routine maintenance on all equipment used and interact with the public to include answering questions and providing customer service. Minimum Qualifications: Must have reliable transportation. Applicants must be at least 17 years old. Applicants must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Weekly hours and contract period are flexible and subject to change. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license. Preferred Qualifications: Previous park experience and/or experience in the following areas: lawn maintenance, plumbing, electrical repair, construction, facility/equipment/vehicle maintenance, and repair. Experience in the field of park maintenance/operations, recreation, forestry, trails, landscaping, construction or agriculture is preferred.Knowledge of and ability to operate tractors, commercial mowing equipment, chainsaw equipment, power tools, hand tools, etc. Special Requirements: Must be willing to work weekends and evenings. Required uniform will be provided. There are no health benefits or paid vacation leave associated with this job. Employees are limited to working no more than 1500 hours in 12 months from May 1 to April 30. Applicants must be able to lift 50lbs., hike trails of varying difficulty, and be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions. DCR employees are encouraged to visit Virginia State Parks!
