Job description
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Gardener to join our well-established and highly reputed garden maintenance company. As a Gardener you will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the beauty and functionality of our clients’ gardens. 1. Responsibilities
a. Garden Maintenance
Perform a wide range of gardening tasks, including planting, pruning, weeding, fertilising, mulching and watering to ensure the health and vitality of plants, trees and shrubs.
b. Lawn Care
Mow lawns with straight stripes, trim lawn edges and maintain healthy turf by aerating, fertilising and applying appropriate treatments to control weeds, moss and pests.
c. Soil Management
Assess soil conditions, amend soil as necessary and provide appropriate nutrients to promote optional plant growth and health.
d. Pest and Disease Control
Monitor plants for signs of pests and disease and take appropriate measures to prevent or control infestations, including applying insecticides or fungicides when necessary.
e. Seasonal Planting
Execute seasonal planting schemes, selecting suitable plants to create vibrant and visually appealing displays.
f. Pruning and Shaping
Skilfully prune trees, hedges and shrubs to maintain their shape, promote healthy growth and enhance the overall aesthetic of the garden.
g. Irrigation Systems
Operate and maintain irrigation systems to ensure proper watering of plants.
h. Equipment Maintenance
Regularly inspect and maintain gardening tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working order and report any issues to the maintenance manager.
i. Client Interaction
Communicate effectively with clients to understand their specific requirements, provide advise and address any concerns or questions they may have.
j. Health and Safety
Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to protect yourself, colleagues and clients whilst working in various garden environments.
2. Qualifications
a. Experience
Minimum of 2 years of professional gardening experience, preferably in a high-quality garden maintenance company or similar setting.
b. Horticultural Knowledge
Strong understanding of plants, trees, shrubs and their specific care requirements, including soil conditions, fertilisation, pruning techniques and pest control.
c. Technical Skills
Proficient in using a wide range of gardening tools and equipment, including mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters and blowers.
d. Physical Stamina
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects, bending, kneeling and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
e. Attention to Detail
Excellent observational skills and meticulous attention to detail. Ability to address plant health issues, pests and potential hazards.
f. Customer Service
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, providing excellent customer service and maintaining a professional demeanour.
g. Flexibility
Willingness to work occasional Saturdays or overtime during peak seasons and adapt to changing schedules or client demands.
h. Qualifications
· A certificate or diploma in Horticulture, Landscaping or a related field is desirable but not mandatory.
· A UK diving licence is essential as we are a mobile business.
· PA1 and/or PA6 is required (training and qualification can be provided).
