The Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) currently has an opening for a Facilities Engineer located in Seguin, Texas . As a Facilities Engineer you will perform various assignments designed to improve the facility, assist in supporting the manufacturing operation and resolve operational problems associated with equipment and facilities. Conduct planning activities for production maintenance team.
Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
This is a staff assignment involved in the improvement of the facility (utilities, water, electrical, structural and hazardous material) and the coordination of the maintenance of various manufacturing equipment. Assignments will vary based on experience and will work independently or as part of a team to resolve problems. This assignment will be geared to systems integration of manufacturing equipment and the support services needed to maintain equipment and/or building operations. Due to the nature of maintenance work, this position may be required to provide project support off shift or over holidays.
Analyzes and recommends current and future systems, procedures, training and equipment needs based upon understanding and communication with users.
Determines acceptability of new equipment based on industrial equipment specifications and recommends modification or revision as necessary.
Troubleshoots throughout the facility to determine the cause of failure, the lack of efficiency and the need for repair or improvement of systems or equipment.
Resolves problems in design and recommends solutions to prevent recurrence of problem. Troubleshooting duties may be specific in nature based on area of expertise, but could include other disciplines.
Coordinates development of a planned maintenance program and prepares documentation to support maintenance frequency and recurring problems. Investigates problems occurring in the shop that are maintenance related and recommends solutions to alleviate the problem.
Work assignments are assigned based on specific background and major projects are divided according to individual expertise, experience, and educational background. Coordination between the various disciplines is essential for successful completion of assignment. Expertise may be in electrical, computer applications, mechanical, construction, structural or environmental areas.
Determines legal requirements for hazardous wastes and air emissions and ensures that the facility is in compliance with state, federal and local laws and regulations.
Determines building requirements for utilities, water, sewer, and electrical systems. Assists in the design of these systems to reflect changes in building requirements due to new equipment and/or rearrangement.
Manages outside contractors performing maintenance, repairs or changes to the facility or utility system.
Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, hazardous materials and ergonomics in performing assigned duties.
Travel up to 10% of time.
Basic Qualifications:
The education and experience requirements for this position are to meet at least one of the following criteria:
Accredited Engineering degree with no relevant experience
Bachelor’s degree or 2-year Engineering Technology degree with 2 year relevant experience
4 years relevant experience with no degree
Microsoft Office/Excel, Mechanically Inclined
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
Project Management
Lean manufacturing experience,
Facility/equipment maintenance experience, robotics, Instrumentation and Electrical
Good Communication skills
