Job description
Estates currently have a vacancy for one part-time mailroom assistant.
The position will report to the Senior Mailroom Assistant. You will be a well-motivated team player and able to meet the varying requirements of the post. The University mailroom is at the hub of the internal and external mail network that operates throughout the institution. While electronic mail is a major source of communication, the volume of surface mail remains high and is processed and sorted by a small team of mailroom assistants within Estates working in a fully equipped mail-room environment. Each weekday, mail is received by Royal Mail and carriers as well as internally and is in turn distributed to schools, units and other external agencies by members of the team using a vehicle or where appropriate, on foot. The mailroom operates from 0800 to 1700 hours although there can be some flexibility in this depending on times of uplift and delivery.
As there is a need for flexibility, part-time posts are suited for this role. Uniform is provided and post-holders are expected to maintain a smart and personable appearance. You will require experience of using IT systems including e-mail along with clearly demonstrated communication skills and a current and valid UK driving licence are essential. Uniform will be supplied and worn.
This is a part-time post working 36.25 hours over a two-week period. This will be split into 2 full-time days one week and three full-time days the next week on a rotation.
Any informal enquiries should be addressed to the Bedellus [email protected] and interviews will be held at a nominated date thereafter.
Applications are particularly welcome from people from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community, and other protected characteristics who are under-represented in professional posts at the University.
