Morgan Stanley is a leading global financial services firm providing a wide range of investment banking, securities, investment management and wealth management services.
- The economist in this position will be monitoring and analyzing, in collaboration with other country economists, the fiscal policies or inflation in all euro area countries, providing an analytical framework to arrive at a coherent assessment of the fiscal stance or inflation developments in all euro area economies. She/he will be leading the debt sustainability assessment for all countries or the maintenance and development of the forecasting infrastructure for euro area inflation.
- The economist in this position will be responsible for producing a set of macroeconomic forecasts for a large euro area country, ideally Spain or Germany, and contributing to the team’s euro area forecasts; exploring macro themes and building econometric models.
- The role will involve writing briefing notes, speaking to clients across fixed income and equities, presenting at internal and external meetings, and organising client interactions with policymakers, predominantly of the country of coverage and at the EU level.
- You will be analysing and commenting on economic data releases and policy events.
- You will be building and maintaining macro databases and econometric models.
- You will be putting together presentations and handling client requests.
- You will be undertaking research for medium-term projects and producing reports and model forecasts.
- You will be communicating views to internal and external clients
QUALIFICATIONS
- Higher degree in Economics or a similar field of quantitative study
- A PhD in economics and a relevant publication record would be an asset
- Strong background in macroeconomics
- Deep knowledge of at least one euro area economy, ideally Spain or Germany, and of the institutions of that country is expected
- Practical experience in time series analysis and proficiency in using econometric packages
- Excellent IT skills related to data manipulation, spreadsheet modelling and automation
- Experience at policy-making institution would be an asset
- Knowledge of ECB and EU institutions would be advantageous
- Ability to communicate clearly in verbal presentations
- Advanced business writing skills to produce concise and articulate reports in English
This role is deemed as a Certified role and may require the role holder to hold mandatory regulatory qualifications or the minimum qualifications to meet internal company benchmarks.
This role can be based in Grosse Gallusstrasse 18, Frankfurt or at 20 Bank Street, London.
