Job description
MACHINE LEARNING STAFF ENGINEER, Sociotechnical Systems Research Center (SSRC)/Center for Constructive Communication, to support MIT Center for Constructive Communication (CCC) research activities, infrastructure, and deployments. Will collaborate with CCC researchers and software engineers to analyze large datasets and deploy models into research prototypes; design, develop, and maintain data pipelines for efficient data processing; be a core contributor to the operation of the center’s compute infrastructure; independently scope, design, and develop methods and core software systems with direction from research staff; participate in effective product-engineering development practices and adapt workflow for a mixed research/production setting; and pivot as research needs develop in a fast-paced, uncertain environment.
The CCC, based at the MIT Media Lab, fosters collaborations across the MIT campus and beyond, leverages data-driven analytics to better understand current social and mass media ecosystems and designs new tools and communication networks to foster constructive dialogue, listening, and bridging across divides. To achieve this, CCC brings together researchers in AI, computational social science, digital interactive design, and learning technologies with software engineers, journalists, political scientists, designers, and community organizers.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: at least two years’ experience building running machine learning pipelines; experience setting up and maintaining data pipelines, including ingestion, monitoring, cleaning, tracking output, automated failure detection, and recovery; experience building APIs and backends (CCC’s includes Python, Flask, Docker, and GraphQL); familiarity with large language models and natural language processing techniques; expertise with standard data science stack tools such as Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch, and Spacy; strong software development skills; and experience with DevOps and AWS. PREFERRED: Experience working with product managers, designers, application developers, and data scientists; and ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Job #22948
