Community Radio Station based in Derby
Job Purpose
· To manage and overlook the broadcast services of Radio Ikhlas and ensure it not only meets the output expectations (in accordance with Ofcom) but also exceeds this to the highest level for our dedicated listeners.
· To oversee the day-to-day operations. Participate in the development and administration of strategic and operating plans. Evaluate programs for compliance with the Ofcom broadcasting code in line with the overall aims and objectives of the station.
· The job holder will play a strategic role in developing a radio station through volunteers and paid employees in providing a halal entertainment platform to pro-actively engage with the community.
Duties
Managing a community radio station can be fun, rewarding, and exciting as no two days are the same in the role. You won’t be just sitting in one place in front of a screen, there will be a lot of moving around, working out in the community, and building relationships with key people and businesses. Here are some of the activities that will shape your day-to-day work:
Studio Responsibilities
· Monitoring the on air (FM / Online) content to ensure that the quality of broadcast meets the Ofcom guidelines and community standards.
· Creating, producing, editing, and evaluating radio advertisements according to the requirement of the advertisers, including adding and removing from advert compilations on time. Creative writing and scripting advertisements.
· Troubleshooting and responding quickly to issues that may arise with the technical equipment, media players and other critical infrastructure equipment on site.
· Managing the on-air schedule, monitoring the attendance of presenters and training new presenters.
· Presenting and producing regular and ad-hoc radio programmes. A station manager is expected to be on air for a minimum of 5 hours a week.
Administrative and Financial Responsibilities
· Good financial recording and planning. This includes working with the accountant to produce annual reports and Ofcom financial reports. Creating budgets and forecasting.
· Effectively dealing with incoming queries, complaints and other types of communication. Communicating and dealing with queries from Ofcom where required.
· Assign, allocate work, and generally oversee volunteer personnel engaged in continuous station operations; perform recruitment when required, training, scheduling, retention, problem resolution, and performance management.
· Develop and maintain accurate records and up to date information including volunteers details, contact details of key people in the community, policies and procedures and other key documentation.
· Arrange and attend regular management meetings. Present KPI’s in front or the senior team and outline the next steps.
Sales & Marketing
· Bring revenue into the organisation by selling on air advertising to local businesses. You will be travelling to clients and closing deals on a regular basis.
Other Expectations
· Actively establish links with external organisations and identify and organise mutually beneficial events (Networking)
· To work flexibly across the week in line with work projects alongside the rest of the Radio Ikhlas team and volunteers
· Demonstrate flexibility to perform any tasks assigned by management team in accordance to general role and may include duties normally allocated to a lower post holder
· To behave and conduct oneself in a respectful and responsible manner so not to be deemed to be disrespectful and offensive in the view of the community
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Strong verbal and written communication skills. The ability to community effectively with other businesses and key members in the community is essential in building relationships and becoming a successful station manager.
· Knowledge of Ofcom Broadcasting code and Radio Ikhlas’s key commitments – Training provided.
· Ability to organisation workload in order of importance and understanding of how to create short, medium and long term goals.
· Technical knowledge at a basic level. This will help ensure that minor technical issues can be easily resolved without having to go to specialists.
· Good financial management, budgeting and forecasting skills.

Training & Development
You are expected to have a good understanding of general organisational management, accounting processes and basic understanding of IT. You are also expected to have a reasonable understanding of fire safety, GDPR regulations, health and safety, cyber risks and laws and regulations of the workplace.
Training will be provided on all the specialist tools and software used to ensure that you are able to achieve the desired results. This includes software such as Adobe Audition, Radio DJ software and LAWO software mixer.
Additionally, you will be provided training on how to use key pieces of equipment at the radio station including mixing desks, amplifiers, broadcasting devices and other critical infrastructure items.
You will be expected to complete 16 hours of CPD each year
