We are currently recruiting two Logistics Assistants/Drivers to work within the Ships and Logistics Group of Marine Directorate, Science Evidence, Data and Digital (MD, SEDD). These roles contribute towards the Scottish Government's National Outcome for the Environment – to value, enjoy, protect and enhance our environment. The roles also support the MD’s vision of marine and coastal environments that are clean, healthy, safe, productive, biologically diverse and are managed to meet the long-term needs of both nature and people.
The MD, plays an important part in supporting Marine Scotland's purpose which is to manage Scotland's seas for prosperity and environmental sustainability. It comprises eight programmes, including the Operations programme, where this post will be based.
You will join a dynamic group in Aberdeen, providing logistical support for MD onsite and marine operations including general stores receipt and delivery, onsite logistical support and driving throughout Scotland to meet the requirements of scientific and marine staff.
As a Logistics Assistant/Driver, you will be required to drive a variety of vehicles ranging from forklift trucks, up to 5 ton CPC registered vans and a minibus for staff transfers. If you are not already certified, you must be willing to undertake forklift driving, CPC and banksman training in order to be able to carry out the role effectively.
Job description
- provide logistical support during loading and unloading of MD ships, including transit van pick-up and minibus driving
- on-site forklift truck operator for the Marine Laboratory complex
- assist with operations at our Altens store, supporting the distribution of goods to both MD SEDD staff and MD Operations vessels
- provide cover for and assist with any ad hoc job requests received by the Ships and Logistics Group on behalf of MD
Person specification
- Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships, with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Good organisation and prioritising skills to manage your workload.
- Experience of working as part of a team with the ability to work flexibly with colleagues whilst maintaining positive working relationships.
- To be a confident communicator with good verbal and written communication skills.
