Job Description
We’re currently recruiting for a new locum opportunity based in the Medway NHS Trust . You will be working as a Consultant - Trauma & Orthopaedics , for an NHS Trust. For this role the individual must have relevant previous experience working in this type of position.
Over 6 months experience in the NHS
MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
Right to work in the UK, or EU
Current DBS, preferably on the DBS update service
Two reference covering past three years (at least one from the current employer)
Main duties of the job
Core to this post is working in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical, professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients.
So integral to the responsibilities of our posts are the following objectives:
- To ensure the provision of a first-class clinical service
- To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
- To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate
- To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies
- To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's and Division's services plans
- To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Surgical Division or the Trust

Clinical Responsibilities
We expect the post-holder to develop and lead a robust service in order to provide high quality care to frail older patients in a timely manner:

- To undertake all work in accordance with the Trusts procedures and operating policies
- To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirement and within the parameters of the Trusts and Divisions service plans
- To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Surgical Division or the Trust
Specific Aims of the post
The appointment of the post has three main aims:
- To join a team that provides comprehensive consultant-based patient-centred management
- To participate in the Trauma Surgery on-call rota at Gloucester Royal Hospital
- To strengthen and develop the Lower Limb service
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Full General Medical Council registration
- On Specialist Register via: CCT or CESR-CP (Combined Programme) (proposed CCT/CESR-CP date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR or European Community Rights
- ATLS Provider
Desirable
- Additional degree, diploma or postgraduate thesis relevant to the specialty
Clinical Experience
Essential
- General training leading to an appropriate higher Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgical qualification
- Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion on problems in Orthopaedic surgery
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion on a range of both elective and emergency problems in orthopaedic surgery
- Expertise in elective lower limb surgery and at least 2 years' experience in a specialist unit or equivalent including Fellowship training in hip/knee surgery
- Validated logbook indicating adequate and appropriate level of specialist surgical operative experience
- Experience in advanced elective hip and knee surgery
- Experience in surgical management of and treatment of periprosthetic fractures.
Desirable
- Experience in advanced elective hip and knee surgery
- Experience in treatment of metastatic bone disease.
