JOB TITLE: IAPT Community Lived Experience Practitioner
DEPARTMENT: Greenwich Time To Talk, NHS Talking Therapies
GRADE: Band 3
Greenwich Time To Talk is a primary care psychological therapy service.
We are seeking a highly motivated Lived Experience Practitioner to join a well-established and high performing Primary Care Psychology service.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of a range of common mental health conditions. They will be able to draw upon their own lived experience of mental health challenges and their personal recovery journey and to develop empathic relationships to support recovery for our service users.

The role is part of an initiative to employ people with lived experience of common mental health difficulties, with a specific focus on supporting the integration into specialist mental health services. This is done through harnessing your own knowledge whilst valuing the experiences and views of your clients in a safe and therapeutic way.
To effectively contribute to the delivery of integrated mental and physical healthcare in an NHS Talking therapies team, using the skills and knowledge gained through having lived experience of common mental health difficulties and the mental health services.
To have a rich understanding of local community resources that can be accessed to improve their physical and mental well-being and staying up to date with accessible support services outside of NHS Talking Therapies.
You will play a key role in engaging with local services and advocating on behalf of clients and NHS Talking Therapies services.

To increase awareness and keep a live electronic resource of activities and services that can be accessed outside of Greenwich Time to Talk to promote balanced well being.
To help build positive relationships between your team and outside services and organisation.
To support clients to engage in activities in the community including joint participation and introduction in line with clients preferences.
To be aware and highlight the diverse needs of clients to ensure that interventions and activities offered reflect the needs of the clients and local communities.
To promote a culture of balanced wellbeing with self, staff, clients and carers.
To support the evaluation and impact of the role.
To keep up to date on the latest Integrated Care developments and research.
To draw on your own lived experience of managing your health in a holistic and integrated way.
To ensure accurate and timely records are maintained in line with Trust policy.
To assist the service user to understand their rights and choices within the service.
Management responsibilities
To review and reflect on own practice and performance through effective use of supervision and appraisal
To identify training needs in conjunction with supervisor and participate in training opportunities
To attend clinical, business & service development meetings as required.
To attend local trust forums that relate to Physical Health and social prescribing.
To participate in the training of students on placement with the team by working with them as required and giving feedback in assessment discussions.
To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to both the specific service user group, peer support and mental health.
Leadership
Be supervised by your line manager and the Senior Lived Experience Practitioner.
Work under direction within a community environment undertaking specific tasks including: community visits, support to access community resources and working with other external agencies.
Work under the supervision of a qualified clinician.
Participate in the induction, training and education of Lived Experience Volunteers in the service.
Participate and contribute to the development of the lived Experience programme in Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust
To attend the Bi-annual LXP CPD session for personal and professional development.
To attend and participate in the Lived experience practitioners support and development groups that are held monthly.
To raise the profile of peer support and integrated care both within the Trust, and externally, through co-delivery of presentations, workshops, and participation in Trust–wide peer related projects and audits: sharing information as required and as agreed with the line manager.
To participate in other trusts peer support forums, working with the Patient and Participation, Equality and Diversity Workforce leads and others to promote the role.
Clinical
Working from a basis of personal lived experience, the post holder will:
Share ideas with service users about ways of achieving wellbeing and recovery goals, drawing on personal experiences including self-management.
Provide signposting for service users to resources including opportunities within the Trust and in the wider community. Help service users to gain access to volunteering opportunities and wellbeing and leisure activities.
Organise activities with a wellbeing focus for service users including groups and 1:1 contacts and assess outcomes of activities.
Undertake planned group work in the community environment under the supervision of a qualified clinical member of staff.
Work collaboratively under the direction of qualified clinical staff to deliver aspects of service user’s care plans, sharing own lived experience as appropriate to the task.
Contribute to formal clinical assessments of service users under the supervision of a qualified clinical member of staff and report back to those involved in service user’s care plans.
Contribute their lived experience to promote recovery values within the team
Promote positive risk taking and support greater independence with service users.
Use Person Centred Planning approaches to support service user’s personal development and enable them to pursue life ambitions. Supporting service users to express and put into action their recovery and wellbeing plans.
Research
Where applicable participate in audit, research, and evaluation and quality enhancement projects relevant to the Lived Experience Programme as required.

Communication
To ensure timely, accurate and informative recording on the electronic patient record system which meets all standards, according to Trust policy.
To monitor the service user’s progress, level of functioning & mental state, reporting progress and areas of concern to the multidisciplinary team.
To keep an up to date database of services/activities/groups available within trust boundaries for all service users and the Greenwich Time to talk team to access if needed.
Demonstrate effective written and communication skills within the organisation and external to the organisation.
