What does a typical day look like?
The successful candidate will manage day to day supervision within the Lighthouse Safeguarding Unit to ensure the department functions effectively and efficiently. You will be managing workloads and ensuring that the interface between Police and external contacts is supportive of providing the highest quality of service to victims and witnesses.

We are now recruiting for a Lighthouse Safety Unit Team Leader in our Lighthouse Safeguarding Department. This is a key role that involves directly supporting and leading staff who are dealing with victims and witnesses and safeguarding matters. As a Team Leader you will be responsible for working collaboratively to support your members of staff.
In this role, your main responsibilities will be:
- Supervise a team within the LSU, including responsibility for welfare, development, performance issues and workload management.
- Oversee the risk and need assessment process to ensure victims, witnesses and vulnerable individuals’ needs are met, cases are accurately managed and safeguarding concerns progressed in accordance with policy.
- Utilise performance gathering systems as required to help monitor performance against agreed key performance indicators
- Ensure that all enquiries and complaints are progressed to a satisfactory conclusion and in liaison with multi agency partners where required.
- Triage and review referrals into the unit and out of the unit for quality and adherence to policy purposes.
- Work collaboratively with partners to improve the overall service levels to victims and witnesses.
- Support the implementation of new initiatives and policy changes and ensure compliance and consistency across the team.
- Engage in strategy and Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub meetings with partners in line with current force policy.
- Prepare strategies and safety plans to enable progress to be monitored in line with Public Protection priorities.
Skills, experience and qualifications required:
- Must have an expert understanding of the Victims Code of Practice, Witness Charter and other guidance and legislation around care and support for victims and witnesses, along with an expert knowledge of Safeguarding and Criminal Justice systems.
- The ability to remain objective, impartial and utilise professional judgement.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent IT skills.
- Be able to travel to attend meetings and work at different locations as required.
- The ability to influence and negotiate with key stakeholders and partner organisations.
This role is blended so you will be able to work from home the majority of the time but will be based at your work location at least 2 days a week.
Working pattern – Flexible working, part time and job share applications will be considered. Please specify if you are seeking an arrangement other than the hours advertised and how you anticipate this may be managed in the role you are applying for. The working pattern required will be between 0800 and 1700 on weekdays Monday-Friday. Specific details of the 30 hour pattern can be discussed at interview.

This role has been identified as a blended role.
The successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to work from home whilst also at a secondary work location, which will be a police premises. The successful applicant will have the option to discuss working arrangements with their line manager. All applicants must reside within the UK.
