Practice Nurse – 2 full time positions
The Oak Veterinary Group, Haverfordwest
The salary for this role is up to £27,000 depending on experience
We are looking for a fun, hardworking, dedicated, and caring Registered Veterinary Nurse to become a part of our Nursing Team.The role will involve:
- Nursing care of hospitalised / in-patients and day patients
- Monitoring of anaesthetics
- Consulting with clients, at nurse clinics (including weight management, senior advice, dietary advice and puppy/kitten advice for example)
- Carrying out procedures such as nail clipping, anal gland expression and dental checks
- Administering medications and vaccinations under the prescription of a veterinary surgeon
- Assistance and support to veterinary surgeons during surgeries and procedures
- Assistance and support to vets within the consulting rooms, as requested
- Use of equipment associated with anaesthetics and monitoring of patients
- Cleaning and maintenance of lab, kennels, prep and theatre areas
- Infection control in lab, kennels, prep and theatre areas
- Maintaining stock in lab, kennels, prep and theatre areas
- Laundry
- Cleaning and maintenance of all equipment
- Participation in team meetings
- Assistance to vets on house visits
- Participation in puppy socials
- Supervision of ANAs and nursing students
- Assistance in the training of ANAs and nursing students, where appropriate
- Dispensing pharmaceuticals
- Use of laboratory, including Idexx machines and microscopy
- Assist with practice marketing initiatives
- Adhere to health and safety policy and procedures, identify hazards and undertake appropriate risk assessments as needed
- Promote the practice, its services and its products to clients and the public
- Maintain knowledge of the employee handbook and relevant protocols
- Management of waste control including drug disposal, cremation service
- Problem–solving in relation to day-to-day issues e.g. equipment repairs, and practice protocols in relation to budgeting and spending
Rota patterns that work for you
We care about the work/life balance of our people and do our best to ensure your needs are met. The standard shift pattern is 37.5 hours across 5 days, plus Saturdays on a shared rota. This will include out-of-hours and callouts (Fee payable). Possibility of job share dependant on business needs.What our practice has to offer
We are based in beautiful Pembrokeshire surrounded by the most stunning coastal and countryside that Wales has to offer. Our main small animal surgery in Haverfordwest offers surgery, dentistry, internal laboratory, ultrasound, radiography, and endoscopy. Our Fishguard branch has internal laboratory, dentistry and surgical facilities and is the site of our aquatic treadmill for hydrotherapy, and where our rehab/physio nurses are based. We use laser in both.Join our enthusiastic and experienced team
We are a team of 9 veterinary surgeons, 5 registered veterinary nurses, 2 student nurses and 2 animal nursing assistants. we also have a practice manager, reception co-ordinator and efficient reception team covering the three sites.We enjoy regular social events including our annual Team Building Day in the summer and Christmas get together and there are also other optional get-togethers all year round. Last year we took part in raising money for Ukraine and some of our team members are heading abroad later this year to participate in a voluntary neutering scheme.
