About the role
A vacancy has arisen for a shelver primarily based in the UCL Main Library, part of a large, multi-site university library service in central London. This is a permanent, seasonal, part-time role. working 10 hours per week Mon-Fri – 9 months per year approx.(does not include summer vacation period) Duties will include emptying book bins onto trolleys, preparing trolleys by subject location, sorting mixed material for shelving and then returning books to their correct place on the open shelves. In addition, the post holders will be expected to assist with the Click and Collect service, tidy the shelves, remove damaged material for repair and occasionally move or reorganize book collections as required. This is an on-campus role. It is not suitable for regular remote working.
About you
The successful applicants will have good communication skills, a flexible approach to their work, and be enthusiastic team players. Excellent attention to detail, an ability to work under pressure and to work independently without direct supervision are also essential for these posts. This role involves the use of trolleys to move material around the library. It will also be necessary to use library ladders and kick-steps. Manual handling training will be provided.
