Job description
We are looking for a proactive and self-motivated candidate to join our highly regarded library service as a Library Service Support Assistant.
The postholder will be involved in the day-to-day running of the Library, undertaking a range of administrative activities to support the access and use of library resources by students, staff and other visitors.
You will be trained to undertake a range of duties in key areas of Library operations, such as purchasing books, journals and e-resources, income reconciliation, stock management, scanning services, inter-library loans and collating and recording statistics. You will work across all functions supported by the team but will have your own specific area(s) of responsibility and act as a point of contact for colleagues across the Library.
Educated to ‘A’ level standard (or equivalent), you will have previous experience of working in an administrative role. You will need a logical approach to problem-solving and the ability to compose effective correspondence and brief reports, enter data and organise information, and work methodically and accurately, with attention to detail. You will be competent in using computers and standard software programmes, such as Microsoft 365, and have the ability to sort books and other library materials.
You do not need to have worked in a Library before, but you must be able to relate to and empathise with students and staff and interact effectively and impartially with a wide range of customers and colleagues. A commitment to delivering a high quality, professional service, a flexible approach and the ability to work in a busy and pressurised environment are essential.
