This is an exciting opportunity to join the Directorate for Student Success as part of the Library and Learning Resources. We are looking for a reliable, customer focused person to join our growing Library and Learning Resources team. The job holder will contribute to the delivery of an excellent customer experience and undertake a variety of duties to support the work of all teams in the university library. You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be eager to support students and staff in a busy university library. While based predominantly at the High Wycombe campus, the post holder will be expected to work 1-2 days per week at our Uxbridge campus.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Library Assistant

Hours: 37 / 18.5 (for the part time role the post holder will be expected to work 4 hours a week on Saturdays during term time. The remaining hours will be worked during the working week.)

Job Purpose:

Main Duties & Responsibilities of the role:
  • Staff the library help desk to provide support for students and staff including; using the library management system to issue and return books, and finding physical and virtual resources using the library catalogue.
  • Assist users with both the self-service machines and the MFDs (printers).
  • Provide remote support to students and staff through phone and email enquiries.
  • Shelving returned library books using the Dewey Decimal System, and shelf tidying to ensure correct ordering is maintained.
  • Process new books and other library materials, and repairing existing stock.
  • Process external visitor requests, and SCONUL applications from our students.
  • Maintain the tidy appearance of the library.
  • Support the Academic Liaison team by checking and processing reading lists.
  • Comply with the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR; Health and Safety; and Equality and Diversity requirements and legislation in all working practices.
  • Such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may reasonably be required.
