Applications are invited for the permanent, full-time post of Library Assistant Special Collections at Oxford Brookes University, Headington Campus. The successful candidate will join our highly-regarded accredited Special Collections and Archives service.
The candidate must have a good general education and practical experience working in a customer service role involving effective teamwork. The ability to be self-motivated and work accurately with good attention to detail is essential. An interest in, and enthusiasm for, preserving and sharing historical material is desirable.
Key tasks involve providing efficient customer service, including:
- A welcoming reception service in the Special Collections Reading Room.
- Interrogating the library management system and archive databases to resolve face-to-face enquiries.
- Answering email enquiries to a high standard of clarity and accuracy.
- Assisting with group visits, teaching sessions and tours of Special Collections, displays, and exhibitions.
- Sorting, listing and repackaging archive material, as well as gathering digital files for the institutional archive.
- Carrying out routine reading room tasks, including shelving, retrieval and collecting statistics.
- Helping wider Library services as required, including Open Days.
