If you are customer focused, interested in a post with a wide variety of tasks, and would enjoy solving all sorts of queries from students, Cambridge academics and researchers, and international visitors, we would like to hear from you.
You will assist with enquiries in-person at busy service desks, and by email, phone, and letter, advising readers on how best to use our collections, both print and electronic. You should have a thorough knowledge of IT and electronic resources and experience of working for a service that provides a high standard of customer service. You will have enthusiasm, flexibility, and a committed approach to the delivery of the highest possible level of customer service. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well under pressure and to work unsupervised as well as part of a team are also key to this role.
Duties will include providing a welcoming point of contact to the Library's readers and visitors; using the Library Management System to carry out all aspects of library work including the issuing and returning of books; assisting in the induction, training and supervision of cover staff; documenting procedures and ensuring effective internal communication; updating library guides and webpages; delivering books from staff areas; shelving items; dealing with general enquiries; working across modern and Special Collections. Involvement in assisting or leading library and information skills activities will also form an occasional part of the post's duties.
This post is 14 hours per week. The post will be required to work 8:45-17:00 on Saturdays. The remaining hours may be negotiated to work either Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays or Fridays.
