Job description
Library Assistant –18 hours per week
Based: Kingswinford library
SALARY: £18,583 pa pro rata
Kingswinford library, operated by GLL, is looking for a part-time Library Assistant for 18 hours per week. Kingswinford is a busy library, giving access to a wide variety of collections and resources including books, periodicals, CD and DVD loans, public computers/internet access. This is an exciting time to join our team as we improve and promote the library’s services for the people of Kingswinford– whether it’s our valued existing users or widening the offering to a new group of customers.
With community at the heart of everything we do, as a Library Assistant, you’ll ensure that every visitor to the library is welcomed into a clean, safe and attractive environment that can service their needs and ensure that they want to keep returning. As a key frontline staff member, you’ll adapt to and acknowledge the diversity of our visitors and what they aim to get out of their library visit as well helping them to discover our wide range of resources and services. Your passion for libraries and community engagement will be apparent as you help people do everything from discovering new authors to tracking their ancestry from our records and even helping them find their ideal job using our IT systems.
You’ll ideally come from a library background, but it’ll be your enthusiasm for helping others and devotion to customer care that makes you really stand out. Naturally good with people, you’ll be able to put people of all ages and backgrounds at ease whilst helping to promote our services. Organised, efficient and thriving on variety, you’ll be just as competent using IT and library management systems as you are running story times and family fun days for our younger audience. It goes without saying that you’ll need excellent numeracy, literacy and communication skills, but you’ll also need excellent administration skills, knowledge of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and the processes involved with the security and operation of a public building.
In return, we offer a range of benefits that you’d expect from the UK’s largest leisure provider:
- Pension schemes
- Ride to work scheme
- Discounted membership at our leisure centres
- The opportunity to join the GLL Society and have a say in how we’re run plus associated social events
- Career pathways
- Ongoing training and development to help you to be the best
