How you'll make a difference
You will make a difference as a Library Assistant by supporting the delivery and promotion of the Library Service.
What will you be doing?
- You shall assist with providing and delivering services, to all sections of the community, for example, services to children and older people as well as assisting with requests and enquiries which are made either by telephone, email, in writing or face-to-face by searching information through computerised and non-computerised resources.
- You will use the library management system and self-service equipment and help the public use IT and information resources.
- You will be required to handle cash and card payments.
- You shall participate in the preparation of new materials, and the maintenance of existing stock through the repair and withdrawal of older materials as directed. You will also ensure the good order and general tidiness of the service point including the sorting and shelving of materials in the appropriate sequence and assisting with promotions and displays.
- You will take part in a wide range of promotional activities and outreach work with all ages, including active involvement in rhyme and story times, undertaking craft sessions, hosting reading groups, organising author events, making school visits and visiting community centres.
- You will need to undertake the physical aspects of the job including shelving and counter work, lifting and carrying of books and other materials.
What we need from you
- You will have a minimum of three GCSE passes at Grade C/Level 4 or above or equivalent including maths and English.
- You can demonstrate an understanding of equal opportunities in the delivery of services including an ability to work with people of all ages and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers.
- You shall have experience of using ICT equipment, applications and internet.
