Full Time Oxford, England 21150 - 21197 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

We are looking for a customer focused Part-time Library Assistant to work at the Vere Harmsworth Library in the Rothermere American Institute, assisting readers in their use of the library. The Vere Harmsworth Library houses the University’s principal research collection relating to the history of the United States, the largest such academic library collection in the UK. The postholder will also work at the Bodleian Library and Radcliffe Camera one afternoon per week.
This is a permanent, part-time post. The working pattern will be variable throughout the year. The successful applicant would be required to work on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays throughout the year, and on Saturdays during term time.
You will undertake a range of duties on front line desks, at all times providing high quality customer service to readers and members of the public. You will also participate in sorting/re-shelving books and collection management projects across the library reading rooms.
You will be educated to GCSE level or equivalent, and have the ability to communicate effectively, confidently and courteously with readers, colleagues and the public. You will have good general IT literacy and a proven ability to perform routine tasks with care and accuracy. Reliability and the ability to work effectively under pressure and as part of a team in a busy working environment are essential. Previous experience of library work is desirable and familiarity with ALEPH / library databases would be an advantage, though full training will be given as necessary.
The role involves lifting, carrying and moving books, and using trolleys.
Our staff and students come from all over the world, and we proudly promote a friendly and inclusive culture. Diversity is positively encouraged, through diverse groups and champions, as well as a number of family-friendly policies, such as the right to apply for flexible working and support for staff returning from periods of extended absence, for example shared parental leave. The annual leave entitlement for full-time posts is 30 days pro rata, plus bank holiday allowance. University employees are also eligible to join the relevant pension scheme for their role. Further information on the University’s staff benefits for both work and personal life can be found here: https://hr.admin.ox.ac.uk/staff-benefits.
You will be required to upload your CV and a supporting statement as part of your online application. Your supporting statement should list each of the essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description, and explain how you meet each one.
Only applications received online before 12:00 midday (GMT/BST) on Monday 3rd April 2023 can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place on Tuesday 25th April 2023.
