Overview
The Research Department at Travers Smith plays a pivotal role in providing both legal and non- legal information to key stakeholders within the firm, such as partners, lawyers, Professional Support Lawyers, paralegals, and business service departments. The Research team manages a large volume of online and hard copy resource materials which forms an essential part of Know How projects and wider business development strategies. The team contribute daily to research and information management projects across all departments and sectors of the firm. In addition, the department provides an enquiry service and delivers in depth training and induction programmes to existing and new employees covering both legal and business research.

The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic person with lots of initiative. The ideal candidate will have already acquired some legal/business research skills.
Above all we need someone with a 'can do' attitude who will relish the opportunities and challenges that working in our team provides. Like all departments at the firm the Research Department boasts a cohesive, friendly ethos, where team working is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain loose-leaf collection across all buildings in a timely and accurate manner.
- Help administrate production of updates for Knowledge Lawyers.
- Help tidy and maintain departmental libraries.
- Photocopy newspaper and journal articles when required or requested.
- Process journals.
- Open post and distribute content where necessary.
- Cover Enquiry Desk and carry out research as appropriate.
- Help maintain our Library Management System (SLLS).
- Anticipate user demands from knowledge of previous enquiries.
- Deliver and maintain a high standard of work presentation.
- Accurate completion of administrative tasks.
- Additional ad hoc duties and covering for team member during holidays or busy periods.
Hub (Intranet) Administration
- Helping the KM team to monitor site usage and collate and analyse usage statistics.
- Helping to run regular checks for broken links and out-of-date information and update sites maintained centrally by the KM team.
- Helping to identify out of date/inconsistent content and engage with content owners to deal with such content.
- Assist with the creation and publication of new knowledge content for The Hub and the firm's website.
- Director of Research.
- Senior Research Manager as appropriate.
Technical Knowledge
- Knowledge of where key hard copy texts are located.
- Knowledge of key online resources and subscription services.
- Prioritise workload to give appropriate time to a variety of requests and tasks.
- Able to work on own initiative without losing sight of overall team goals.
- Actively participate in development of service provision.
- Maintain an environment supportive to users.
- Able to meet deadlines while keeping team members informed of developments.
- Deal with telephone, personal and written enquiries promptly in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner.
- Promote the Research Centre as an efficient support unit to the partners and staff of Travers Smith.
