Job description
Libraries Customer Services: Hallward, Denis Arnold
We have an exciting opportunity for a Librarian to join our Customer Service section, a small senior team who work within the Libraries department at the University of Nottingham. Across the university we have eight different Libraries and employ over 200 people. Having colleagues from a wide range of groups and backgrounds is key to a good supportive workplace and even better services. We are particularly keen receiving applications from groups who are currently underrepresented in Libraries in the UK, such as people from Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic backgrounds.
As a Librarian you will coordinate and support staff and processes across multiple libraries and extensive opening hours. You will maintain and develop relevant library systems as well as line manage Senior Library Advisers supporting staff to provide a broad range of consistently high-quality frontline services.
You will be based in the Hallward Library and Denis Arnold Music Library Team but you will build effective working relationships with our two other Librarians in supporting and developing services across all our libraries. Those services include a comprehensive frontline help and enquiry service (physical and virtual), a wide range of lending services, shelving and book delivery across sites. The remit also includes the library building in terms of equality, diversity and inclusion, access management, security, physical condition, health and safety and extended opening.
You will have excellent organisational skills, significant operational knowledge of lending procedures and ideally you will have a broad range of relevant library experience although this does not have to be in a university environment. You will be an experienced line manager, able to communicate clearly and concisely, motivate and lead staff confidently through change with the ability to prioritise complex demands under pressure.
This is a permanent, full-time post of 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday inclusive. Job share arrangements may be considered.
What can we offer you? A friendly and supportive working environment. We are committed to providing competitive employment packages that support your well-being and help you reach your full potential. You will have access to a benefits package, including leading fitness and health facilities, staff discounts and travel schemes, along with a generous holiday allowance and pension scheme.
Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. Within Libraries, we are dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every requirement in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate.
