Our Level 6 Degree Apprenticeships:

Our apprenticeships allow you to study for industry-recognised qualifications whilst earning a competitive salary. As an apprentice, you will study with a training provider, such as a university, and combine this experience with real responsibilities in the workplace. Your study pattern could be day or block release, or via distance learning, depending on the course that you enrol on. A dedicated mentor will guide you through your personal and professional development. Level 6 Degree Apprenticeships have a typical duration of 3– 6 years, during which you will attain both a professional and academic qualification to further your career. Our apprentices are employed on a permanent basis, so you'll continue to progress with Arup once you've completed your course.

Civil Engineering

Right now, we are looking for Civil Engineering Technicians to join our UK-wide teams. From your first day you will join a community of experts, where everyone is supported in their chosen career path and encouraged to work towards an accredited qualification. You will help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. While you will have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we'll give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills.

Across all teams, you will support a variety of different work, including:

  • Production of engineering drawings and sketches, including 3D or 2D computer drawings
  • Production of Building Information Models (BIM) (depending on the specifics of the role)
  • Undertaking virtual design reviews
  • Preparation of simple engineering calculations
  • Contributing to solutions for design challenges
  • Taking part in design meetings, site visits, presentations and workshops
  • Helping with the administration of projects

We are looking for candidates with five or more GCSEs and a minimum of 3 A levels at grade C or above including Mathematics and Physical Science, or a level 3 apprenticeship or other relevant qualification


Rail Electrification

Right now, we're looking for a Rail Telecoms Systems Engineering Apprentice to join our team in Manchester.

This role as a Rail Telecoms Systems Engineering apprentice is an opportunity to work as part of our multi-disciplinary design teams delivering a portfolio of varied rail projects as part of an established and expanding Rail Business. You'll help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients such as Network Rail, HS2, and many others. The role will be primarily focussed on the rail sector, although there will be the opportunity to work in other sectors as the need arises.

This role will include the design and specification of the following types of systems along with technology appraisal, site surveys and overseeing the installation and bringing into service of systems:

  • Railway Operational Telecom Systems (Operational Telephony, Copper, Fibre, FTN, FTNx, GSM-R & associated transmission systems)
  • Station Information and Surveillance Systems (SISS) including CCTV, PA/VA, Customer Information systems, Passenger Help Points
  • DOO (Driver Only Operation)
  • SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems
  • Station Management Systems
  • Control room technology
  • IT communications infrastructure including IT routes, rooms, risers, copper and fibre optic cabling
  • Local area networks, wireless LANs, telephony, unified communications
  • Radio and cellular distributed antenna systems

Rail Telecoms Systems Engineering apprentices will use and apply engineering principles and techniques to solve problems. They will support the development and production, analysis and planning of railway engineering designs which will be used to construct, maintain or improve rail systems.

We are looking for candidates with five or more GCSEs and a minimum of 3 A levels at grade C or above including Mathematics and Physical Science, or a level 3 apprenticeship or other relevant qualification


Environmental Consulting

As an Apprentice Environmental Consultant, with Arup you will develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours in the following areas:

  • Technical knowledge of environmental and sustainability issues working with a range of specialists in air quality, archaeology and heritage, carbon, climate resilience, contaminated land, ecology, landscape, noise and vibration, water, waste and resource management;
  • Programme and project management;
  • Research, information management and report writing;
  • Contract and financial management;
  • Teamwork and communication skills.

These competencies will be developed through practical on-the-job training, working with experienced environmental and sustainability consultants and classroom-based training with Arup and a local University. You will be assigned a mentor within the Arup environmental consulting team who you will work and liaise closely with in your day-to-day work. During your day to day work you will have the opportunity to contribute to the planning and design of environmental projects through the collection and preparation of data, presentation of written information and analysis to determine the impacts upon the environment and people associated with the design, construction and operation of buildings, development and infrastructure projects.

The apprenticeship will run over a 5-6 year period, during which time you will undertake a supervised programme of training and block/day release with a University.

We are looking for candidates with five or more GCSEs at grade C/4/5 or above including Maths and English and a minimum of 3 A levels at grade C or above including Applied Science, or a level 3 apprenticeship in applied science
