We are seeking an experienced residential property lender to work within our Private Client sector to provide mortgages and residential investment property loans to high-net-worth clients. The successful candidate will enjoy working with clients to create bespoke lending solutions for them and continuing to build Investec's strong brand presence in the Guernsey marketplace as a private bank of choice.
Description of role and key responsibilities
Role
Origination, execution and maintenance of principally private client property lending in Guernsey
Responsibilities
- Build relationships with existing & target clients to maximise lending origination;
- Plan and initiate contact with key introducers and prospects;
- Proactively work with IBCI colleagues to promote the bank's lending capability across our target market;
- Deliver to a personal origination budget as part of the Lending Team;
- Hold and attend meetings with existing clients, prospective clients and introducers to identify and address lending opportunities;
- Critical analysis of lending propositions and their suitability in line with the lending criteria and appetite of IBCI;
- Preparation of credit applications, including the required level of research and due diligence with respect to the verification of the main facets of a proposition, such that key areas of risk are appropriately identified and mitigated;
- Presentation of credit applications to key stakeholders for approval;
- Working with a Portfolio Manager in:
- overseeing the drafting of relevant Facility Letters and documentation in line with the Credit Minute, ensuring all conditions have been documented correctly;
- Management of deals through to drawdown, including any subsequent draw downs, ensuring all conditions continue to be met;
- Managing existing loans and relationships;
- Pro-active notification to clients of debt servicing requirements, along with monitoring and chasing as appropriate;
- Effective management of any excesses or expired limits;
- Carry out reviews of existing facilities as required per the approval conditions
- Deal with day-to-day client queries;
- Maintain a good understanding of the regulatory environment and how the rules and guidance impact the role;
- Follow all applicable internal compliance considerations and appropriate processes, policies and procedures;
- To act with integrity at all times
Core Skills and knowledge
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal);
- Good knowledge of the Guernsey property market;
- Experience of lending to individuals and their corporate structures with a demonstrable understanding of what constitutes relevant financial and non-financial data in an appraisal of any such transaction;
- An ability to critically appraise the strengths and weaknesses of a lending proposition, identifying key risks and appropriately mitigating;
- Experience of reading and interpreting financial accounts;
- A general awareness of lending procedures, including credit and drawdown related matters;
- Ability to learn quickly and react to client requirements within the appetite parameters of IBCI;
- Team player with the ability to build relationships both externally and internally;
- Ability to follow all relevant compliance considerations including a good awareness of the regulatory environment;
- Solid general administration skills;
- Ability to deal with demanding clients and work within tight deadlines;
- The potential and desire to develop within the business.
