The Role
Responsibilities:
- Break news including judgments, court orders, and updates in the context of legal proceedings relating to Reorg’s core U.K court coverage;
- Attend hearings and trials to produce fast, well-written court coverage with a particular (but not exclusive) focus on restructuring plans and schemes of arrangement;
- Liaise with relevant parties including legal advisors/barristers to obtain copies of skeleton arguments and other court documents;
- Purchasing and writing up court filings;
- Work alongside core staff writing team writing company earnings, announcements and other breaking news;
- Assist with maintenance of Restructuring Database;
- Provide content for podcasts and marketing when relevant;
- Review court listings, press articles and releases for new and existing court coverage related to Reorg content;
- Develop understating of topical credits and ongoing situations;
- Monitor domestic and foreign press for key developments
Requirements:
- Excellent written and spoken English;
- A self-starter keen to develop an acute news sense in this beat;
- An ability to quickly synthesize situations with complex legal and/or factual matrix in clear, tightly-angled stories;
- Some understanding of the UK court system and familiarity with credit markets and debt restructurings (both in and out of court ) is preferable, but not essential;
- Availability to attend in-person hearings at the High Court in London at short notice;
- A proven ability to multi task and work both independently and as a team player in a fast-paced and collaborative environment;
- Fluency in other European languages is always a plus but not required;
- Ability to being work at 7 a.m. on rotation
