A new vacancy has arisen for a Legal Officer to join the Legal Team on a full-time or 4 day a week basis. As a key member of the Legal team, you will be providing and developing a highly professional legal service.

About you
The successful candidate will report to the Group Solicitor and Director of Legal Services in the Legal team and will be a member of a small, yet effective, Legal team providing professional in-house legal advice and support to the Executive and senior leadership.
The post-holder will work closely with other members of the team in the continuing development of the legal service and implementation of standard procedures and documents.
You will assist with commercial contracts, prompt resolution of all student disputes as well as advise on a wide variety of legal matters both in the UK and internationally.
Exciting work you will do
- Provide legal advice on a wider variety of matters, including commercial contracts, international collaborations, procurement, IP matters, disputes and litigation (including student complaints).
- Review legal documents prepared by counter parties.
- Form collaborative working relationships with a wide range of other teams and functions across the university.
Advise on the impact of policy and procedures on dispute resolution.
Draft precedent and bespoke contracts, letters and other supporting documents.
- Instruct external lawyers as appropriate, including internationally.
- Keep up-to-date on relevant areas of law and best professional practice.
- Disseminate information to senior managers to enable legal compliance, including presenting briefings and delivering training.
The skills and experience you will need to be successful
An England & Wales admitted solicitor or barrister with at least 2pqe, you will have strong ability to interpret, draft and negotiate commercial contract documentation and advise on new areas of law or changes to the law and to make consequential changes to precedents/suites of legal documents.
You will have the ability to communicate in a professional manner and present legal and commercial matters clearly to lay people and be able to deliver work of a consistently high quality, often to tight deadlines.
With good interpersonal skills, you will be a natural team-player with a demonstrable record of forming flexible, collaborative professional relationships and be prepared to work flexibly in accordance with the needs of the post.

Details about the role
This role is offered on a full time (35 hours per week) and permanent basis.
Please note that the University is operating a hybrid working model which means a mix of working on site and from home, confirmation of days worked on campus are arranged with the line manager.
