Join our dynamic and vibrant Legal service to provide high quality legal advice to the Council in relation to a range of challenging matters.
This is a full-time, permanent post working 37 hours per week from Monday to Friday. You’ll have flexibility in hybrid working being both office based, at City Hall or working remotely from home to suit your needs. On occasion you may be required to work outside of normal office hours to attend to emergency work or committee meetings. However, we offer flexible and agile working to reflect this and promote a healthy/work-life balance
What you’ll be doing
Working in a supportive environment with a well-established team, you’ll manage your own varied caseload of commercial, contractual, and general local government law matters. You’ll support the Head of Law ensuring the provision of quality, client focused and cost-effective legal services for the Council and other agreed public bodies in the area of Commercial and Contract Law (including Public Procurement).
You’ll represent the division on regular basis with clients, carrying through assigned tasks and matters to conclusion, whilst demonstrating an understanding and application of the Council’s governance requirements. You’ll provide functional legal input (research, drafting) in assigned discipline at a level appropriate to the post and legal advice at an appropriate level in the assigned discipline to meet corporate priorities. In addition, you’ll oversee and guide paralegal staff within the team to ensure best value is given not just by yourself but also those staff less experienced.
What you will need
With recent experience of working in a legal office dealing with Commercial & Contracts services you’ll hold strong legal research and analytical skills with knowledge of the necessary laws. In addition, as someone who thrives on impending deadlines along with your ability to draft legal documentation and knowledge of court processes, you’ll carry a caseload and meet objectives and targets, whilst being flexible and adaptable to work pressures and meeting service needs. You’ll have excellent I.T. skills, including proficiency in the use of Word and case management systems.
As someone who has great interpersonal skills, you’ll ensure the service is represented in a professional and positive manner to all clients and other external agencies. As a great team player, you’ll form a great team with positive working relationships and be able to give clear, concise advice, entering into negotiations to achieve the best outcomes and meet objectives.
What we can offer you
As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance. You’ll enjoy generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and the option of flexible working.
